What if the clip that’s on the motherboard came off? What can I do then?

one thing happened to my touch pad. i spilled the coffee on my laptop and then the keyboard and the touch pad stopped working well. i opened the laptop to clean, cleaned it. but still has the problem with the keyboard, its sticky, but works well. but the touch pad doesn't work well now. it isn't clicking when pressed on it the right side. The guy at the repair shop said need to change the keyboard first, then the touch pad. because he said, the reason why the touch pad doesn't work well is the sticky keyboard. I doubt its the reason/ I think the keyboard and the touch pad work independently/ Am I right or not?
