Barcelona's actual metropolitan population is about 2.2 Million people, 1.6 of which are from it's municipality. The 5.6 Million people area is much wider than that covering about a fifth of Catalonia. It also encompasses other major population cities, and identities, which have mostly grown together because of the train during the industrial revolution.

As a Catalan, I am really glad that people like you talk about us. Some people just think it's a normal part of Spain, but it isn't. We have our own language and culture, which is completely different from the rest of Spain. I really don't care about whether Catalonia is independent or not, but I'm really proud of my homeland. Visca Catalunya!

If Catalunya became independent, its population would drop probably by more than 50% since it will be out of the EU and most non-Catalans would just leave. Probably just the locals would stay here. Their economy would go down too since many people and companies would move out of Catalunya (many banks and megacorporations already did this in 2017 and 2018).

There is a kind of racism in every nationalism.

Catalonia has never been a state.

Catalonia has grown blackmailing the spanish gobernment, and spaniards from the rest of the state are a captive market, even in Franco's regime.

Since the XIX century political violence is greater and bloodest in Catalonia that in the rest of the country ( with the temporary exception of Basque country, were another nationalism raised)
