I was searching this fix only for my problem, as when I was opening any game in lower resolution, my game screen was becoming smaller, and I thought that it should be going bigger.

PS : Now I can play all games in lower resolution, to achieve higher FPS.

Step 1. press Windows key + R to open cmd
Step 2. In the cmd window, type in "regedit" and hit Enter
Step 3. Follow the path :


Step 4. right click "Configuration" and choose "Find".
Step 5. Type the word "scaling" and then hit Enter
Step 6. A window will open, double-click the word "scaling".
Step 7. Change the Value data to "3".
Step 8. change screen resolution in windows to 1024x768 and apply.

now change it back to your normal resolution which you like
and restart your PC.

Step 9. now old games will run in full screen if not
try changing windows resolution to 1024x768
while playing the game or try different resolutions.

[if you want to revert the changes
set the scaling to 4 (which is default)

this is short explanation of the possible scaling values:

you can set the "scaling" value
to [ 2 / 3 / 4 ]


Scaling = 2 (Center Image)

Scaling = 3 (Full Screen should be set)

Scaling = 4 (Maitain Aspect Ratio)

I am a Linux user and I installed windows specifically to play games. After installing Windows 10 (not activated) I searched many articles and applied solutions but none of them worked. At last, I concluded that it is something related to activation since non activated version may not allow some features to take affect like the issue of latest updates and additional features on activated versions of windows. I was thinking to download windows 7 specifically to fix this issue (I like windows 7 but to switch just to solve that issue was something I was not liking) and I found your video. I applied the fix and instantly got the result. Thank you very much for saving my day. I don't know what the issue is whether it is activation of something to do with outdated drivers and some older outdated hardware, but I am happy that the solution worked. You are great!
