How to Fix Rusted Slide Clamps with Sandpaper & Grease

In this video, I show how I take some old sliding clamps that havfe surface rust, and restore them into something smooth and easy to use.

I use sandpaper to remove the rust first. The first sand paper is what painters use as it is designed to be able to take a lot of clogging before it needs to be replaced - and the rust clogs.

Next I use wet and dry sand papers used for polishing metals. I start from 240 Grit to 2000grit.

Lastly I put a small amount of grease over the metal to both protect it from further rust, and it also makes the clamp slide even better.

Great video.
I pulled out some of my longer clamps that I haven't used for a while and they had heaps of rust on them.
One of the joys of living in Darwin I guess.
Going to give them a clean up today and hit them with some wd40.
Was watching a video by Paul sellers a while back on making an oil can.
Basically he gets an old tin can and jams rags in it and then puts a heap of machine oil in it.
Then after using his tools etc he gives them a quick wipe with the can.

Hey Andrew...Nice video! Did you know the video ends around 15:22 but it shows it's a 21:09 long video. Just wanted to let you know...no biggie :-)
Also wanted to tell you about WD40, it makes a good rust protector...just spray it on and lightly wipe it off with a clean cloth rag. If you don't have WD40 there, a good silicone
spray works just fine.... :-) Hope this helps...Chat later!
