Project 2025: As Bad for Cities as You Think It Is

Republicans don't plan to waste time remaking the US government if their guy wins in November. The playbook is "Mandate for Leadership: the Conservative Promise," aka Project 2025, and it's chock full of amazingly terrible ideas when it comes to cities.

----------

Please vote in November, and do more if you can. Here are a couple ways to get involved. (We send postcards to swing states in our household!)

Man, letting Uber get the "public transportation" taxes while still defining drivers as contractors in order to avoid paying HR taxes is peak antisocial corporate greed.

Urban planning was one of the first subjects I looked for on the Project 2025, it's a complete nightmare for anybody who isn't a fossil fuel billionaire. It's crazy how much of our politics is ruled by a few people with their obscene amounts of money

To anybody that wants to unsubscribe because they don't want politics in their video about city planning, I just want to say reconsider for a second. City planning isn't an abstract thing that we do in SimCity or something, it is a deeply political project. It requires funding from almost every level of the government and is fundamentally shaped by laws surrounding zoning, speed limits, etc. There is one party in this country that doesn't want cities to be livable. They want single family homes and lots and lots of gas powered cars. If you're a fan of this channel, but not of politics, I hope you can at least rethink how politics directly shape the cities we call home. That's just a thought though.

Privatize public transit so billionaires can get richer off bankrupting citizens who just need to get somewhere.

As someone who works 50 hours a week, I was excited to read that they intend to stop forcing corporations to pay overtime. Beyond EVERYTHING ELSE, the fact that I would be homeless if I couldn't live in my mom's attic, the fact that I spent my 20s paying off a certificate program, the fact that I'm losing four of my teeth because it would cost several thousand dollars for root canals, and I've been working since I turned 16 to afford to pay bills and student loans, I mean...
Hell yeah, man! Cut that overtime pay!
Twisty knives fit the best!

I am an Iranian and I can tell you that project 2025 would imitate the Iranian regime to a great extent by making decisions based on policy, ideology, and corruption rather than logic. I love my country but do not wish the Iranian regime on my worst enemy. Do better. Do not imitate the Iranian regime, even we Iranians don't like them

The redefinition of "public" transit really pisses me off! I die a little everytime I see a private "Public" parking lot 😢

Also Trump: makes public speech for the Heritage Foundation with their logo in the background

No matter what you care about, there's _something_ to hate in Project 2025.

Wrecking cities isn't a bug, it's a feature. They hate urban blue areas and want to punish them

If I want to spend a lot of time driving in a car, then I want to see investment in public transportation to get other people off of the streets. If I want to live in an affordable single-family home, then I want to see investments in multi-family homes to drive down the demand (and cost) for single-family homes.

Project 2025 (and many conservatives as a whole) : “We need smaller government and less regulations”

Urbanist: “Great, so you support ending single family zoning restrictions and government subsidies of personal vehicles?”

Project 2025: “Wait, not like that”

It’s just part of the larger trend of conservatives wanting to act like smaller government is needed until it negatively impacts them. But acknowledging that single family zoning and personal vehicle subsidies are based on government regulation would harm their ego because then they would have to admit that they rely on the government to maintain their current social standing. (And quite frankly are likely receiving large overall subsidies than an individual in poverty)

This is so cartoonishly absurd this honestly sounds like something written by a Captain Planet villain. They are stopping one step short of providing a tax credit to flare natural gas in your front yard, purely for decorative purposes and putting lead back into gasoline just so it "runs better."
