In this video we turn a broken Steam deck into a Mini PC!
I recently bought a Broken Parted out Steam deck that would have cost too much to repair so naturally we had to turn it into a mini PC!
Using the LCD Steam deck motherboard and a 65W travel charger with HDMI we transformed the parts into a functional Mini Gaming PC powered by Linux!

This actually worked better than expected, but seriously, don't take your Steam Deck apart to try this

The fact that you can basically get a fairly competent low-end gaming PC for $100 or less by buying just the board and fan in this manner is actually really cool.

Damn ETA! You accidentally created the greatest raspberry pie in history.

Just a motherboard+cooling & a single cable and it's this functional?! Woah! 👍

It's good to know that the deck will function without a battery connected and all the other parts, when you take those away the deck really is a tiny little machine!

I'm so glad someone did it, i get mine back 2 weeks ago, the repair center said there is too much water damage to fully fix it but works as a desktop, but now i can shrink it down, thank you for the idea

It would be cool to see a custom 3d printed case for it. I was just thinking about how if you could get the motherboard on the cheap, you could get a really good gaming experience out of it. You could just build a mini steam machine. I don't know why Valve hasn't already done it themselves

Did you feel that? Yeah, second hand Steam Deck just went up in price.

imagine putting that hardware along with portable monitor is insane, so we can have a budget ROG flow z13 running steamos

Honestly even if this is just desktop steam deck, I would connect the battery either way. It still won't be a handheld but it would be portable and if you lose power from the wall, you'll still have backup to save the game or play for a little while longer.

Build suggestion: Steam Hoodie wearable. Attach the deconstructed steamdeck to a sturdy hoodie, add a pair of Xreal Airs. Wearable gaming platform, that keeps you warm on cold nights.

Valve, take notes. This is how you resurrect the Steam Machines.

Would love to see this overclocked, since battery power is no longer a concern. Was planning on using my deck as a set-top box like this if the screen ever breaks, but I didn't realize you could strip so much hardware.

Building it and a dock into a case as a single unit would be pretty cool.

If you can nab a broken steam deck for cheap this would def be worth it.

What a brilliant idea. The Steam Deck is such a great little device for everything it can do, and they're not hard to find cheap. Honestly, I might consider this as a TV PC device.

Nice way to revive 'broken' hardware. Would be great to see a nice case for it.
