Coming from a fairly well-off part of South Coast NSW, you'd (not) be surprised to see the number of Teslas (and other high-end EVs) in our shopping centre carparks. We've also seen more than a few "disagreements" over who is getting to use the two EV charging places, especially when charging is not exactly a fast process. With more and more people jumping on the EV bandwagon (almost certainly unadvisedly) it'll be fun watching the fights breaking out between the wealthy, entitled tradies with their glamourous cars in the near future! Fortunately all the EV fan club seem to park near the charging stations, so the rest of us are able to park well away, just in case of any incident!

One year ago a German car inspection engineer found 23 faults a Chinese made Model Y that came to his garage for a one year warranty check. Of which 8 road worthy inspection failures. Mostly on breaks, suspension, shocks and control arms. There's a YouTube video about that inspection. Apparently at least suspension issues are very common in Tesla cars.

When the car weighs more than a truck and can accelerate quicker than a Corvette, it's no mystery to me how it's going to be twisting off drive axles and ripping its own wheels off. They're going to have to start beefing up the chassis components and limiting how much torque the motors can produce in order to keep the car from destroying itself. That as they also work on the problem of keeping the car from setting itself on fire.

One of my sons bought a Tesla. I can't remember the model, but it was brand new and has 2 motors. Not long after he bought it the front windscreen cracked, due to internal air pressure being greater than atmospheric pressure. It took ages and some arguing to have it fixed under warranty. My son took me for a drive in the Tesla, and although the acceleration was impressive, I couldn't get over how cheap and 'tinny' the interior was. At the same time I had just purchased a Mazda 3. It may burn petrol, (gasoline for North America), but it sips fuel. The build quality is outstanding, and I know if there are any warranty issues, they will be dealt with immediately, effectively and with grace. When will the climate change zealots realise that the biggest influence over climate is that big, bright yellow thing in the sky we see during daylight hours.

My biggest gripe with Tesala is that they do everything they can to fight the right to repair.

Ironic that a manufacturer blames the drivers for damage that could have been prevented by being checked better quality checked before it left the facility. Another strike against the Evil Vehicles.

I drove a Tesla Model 3 for the 1st time at the start of this month and the build quality reminded me of something British Leyland would build in the '70s and bloody awful to drive.

My biggest concern is that drivers can escape if it catches on fire because with electrical failure the doors won't open.

I know someone whose job is to study car builds and write reports for his customers. His grandfather belonged to a team of engineers that found out that the Mini Cooper (the original one) was costing more to manufacture than the asking price for the car. He told me Teslas all have rather strange and complicated designed bodywork that makes even slight accident damage difficult to repair. Tesla calls this an "innovative" design feature.

I have owned an EV for only 6 months. Too many hassles. This winter, the range fell down significantly. I went to the car dealer of this popular brand to report the range problem and they told me that it wasn’t the car’s fault but the driver. According to him, the EV analyses the driver’s driving behaviour and creates an algorithm that will reflect on the car’s driving range. I told him that I’m an efficient driver. I don’t do unnecessary acceleration and easy on the pedal. He said that I needed to drive the car to the motorway just to perk up the battery. Ridiculous! You’re right they do not admit that EVs are the problem. No wonder why people are not buying them anymore. I finally sold mine and replaced it with a TDI after searching for so many buyers. Apparently, nobody is willing to buy a used EV because they are difficult to sell. Right now I’m happy with my ICE car. I get what I paid for in miles. Range is no longer affected by external factors like cold or hot weather temperatures. I’m not going to feel scared about the fire hazard recalls of my previous EV. That’s it. I will wait for Hydrogen cars for my next upgrade.

I predict there will be ev's parked in driveways with dead batteries by the thousands in just a few years. The batteries will cost more than the car is worth and there will not be mechanics who are qualified to replace them. A lot of them will still have a payment due on these cars. This is not going to end well for these owners! I also do not think it will be long until insurance is going to be extremely expensive and or not available. Get rid of them while you still can.

I basically dont have a problem with EV's, Its the move by Governments forcing you to buy them that is a disgrace.

Moral aside, as a business scheme Tesla is going perfectly.
They can sell a paper car to fans for 100k, and fans would love it.

My son-in-law just got his new Tesla. I didn't even try to talk him out of it. He thinks I have dementia. I still drive my '73 VW Beetle.

I am amazed that more people aren’t picking up on how dangerous that stupid pretentious centrally mounted screen for all the controls is. It must be terribly distracting causing the driver to take their eyes off the road for seconds to do simple things like adjust the temperature. I have a touch screen on my Jag and luckily it is only used for minor functions - major things like heating etc being controlled by ergonomic buttons/switches which you can use without taking your eyes off the road, but it is nearly impossible to use anything on that screen when the vehicle is in motion without taking your eyes off the road for an uncomfortably long time. Even my wife finds it hard to use from the passenger seat where she can look properly. Tesla are a disaster area. They are badly built, fugly and horribly ill designed. Musk is an arrogant con artist. Why anyone would buy a product he is associated with beggars belief.
By the way have you picked up on the latest Geoff buys Cars/Macmaster diesel v EV challenge East to West across England? That proves EVs are the future!!! NOT!

One cannot instantly create a car manufacturer that produces quality cars.

Japanese car manufacturers achieved the level of quality and reliability they exhibit today only because they worked long and hard at it, to the extent it became part of their culture. Quality comes from the ground up, from the attitude and capability of the workforce, not just quality control procedures. It needs to be strenuously maintained, or it will slip, and the company with it.

German car manufacturers long had this, but do they still have it today?

The swansong of British car manufacturing was the attitude of their workforce and quality control. RIP.

Even China has quality control, but this gets bypassed by bribery and corruption, with the inevitable result.

Tesla are setting themselves up for a fall.

That's how things go when you're in a cult. Everything is supposed to work perfect in a cult, all the time, and then when it doesn't; it's always your fault.

When a manufacturer designs a new car, much is designed by outside specialist companies, like electrical parts, fuel systems, etc. Steering and suspension is often a similar joint venture. The outside companies have a wealth of experience and will specify components that will cope with the stresses. It would appear that Tesla, despite being a new car company, have not gone that way. I guess they have recruited engineers from other manufacturers, but perhaps not found the best.
An EV from an existing car company looks and feels like their other products, so is familiar to use. Tesla being a technology company have built a smartphone with wheels. I regularly get to spend time in Tesla's, sadly, and their build quality, from an early status of 'appalling' has improved dramatically, and is now 'poor'.

From what ive seen a lot of the parts on the car are single use only such as with the headlights are designed not to be serviceable are sealed tight so you cant get into them to even change a bulb without extreme destruction where normal car users have had the ability to change their own car headlights for years 😀, I think these cars are the iphone of cars as they are non user serviceable/repairable and will end up in landfills.

I have a 1970's Mini still running on the original suspension and it didn't cost 100, 000
