Three killed in head-on collision in Welland

The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a fatal crash in Welland that killed three people last night.
The OPP, in coordination with the Welland Fire Department, Niagara EMS, and Ornge, responded to a head-on collision involving a pickup truck on Highway 58, between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East, at approximately 10:21 p.m. on October 12th.
It was determined that a pickup truck collided head-on with a Niagara transit bus and as a result, the pickup truck rolled over and burst into flames.
The driver of the pickup and two passengers were pronounced deceased on the scene, say police. The bus driver was air-lifted to hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Their current condition is unknown. Two passengers were also on the bus at the time of the crash. One was taken to hospital to be treated for serious injuries, while the second passenger was released at the scene.
Police continue to investigate and Highway 58 is currently closed between Kleiner Street and Forks Road East. It’s anticipated that the roadway will be closed for a number of hours while the investigation continues.
