I turned 65 last year and went with traditional Medicare and a part G supplement, expecting to not need much in the way of healthcare for another 5 to 10 years. Little did I realize that my health would take a turn for the worse in May and I ended up seeing 4 specialists along with my primary care doctor and spent a week in the hospital in addition to more tests than I can count. My total cost for this was $226, and I can't image what would it would have cost under Medicare Advantage, not to mention getting pre-authorized for a lot of the tests I had.

The Part A hospital gaps are terrifying! I am a nurse and have seen that, bedside care has fallen apart.. We spend 80%+ of our time is doing computer documentation.

As a retired psychologist, I was leery of Medicare Advantage. How much of their Medicare funds are paying for advertisement? In my wonderful Plan G supplement, zero dollars go to advertising. I am thrilled with my Plan G supplement. Like another commenter, I was quite healthy when I retired. In the past couple of years, I have had multiple visits to the pulmonologist, cardiologist, and gastroenterologist, and multiple tests and procedures from each one. If I had to fight with a Medicare Advantage plan to get these tests, the stress would have been unbearable. And if I had to pay out of pocket with a big deductible or higher copays, that would have been stressful as well. Plan G is wonderful; I pay up front for a plan that keeps the stress out of healthcare!

Your school was a life saver for me. I just became Medicare eligible 5 months ago from disability. I was lied to by an agent and started in an Advantage plan, which was a nightmare as someone who gets frequent procedures. Fortunately I came upon your channel and got the correct information. I was able to switch to a plan G. I’m now facing more procedures and surgeries. Only costs me $226. I paid more than this for one procedure.

I am turning 65 in November. I knew absolutely nothing about Medicare until I found your fabulous YouTube channel! I love it! You explain everything so perfectly and easy to understand. Now I know all I need to know thanks to you! I am definitely going on the “G” plan, my husband is already on it. Thank you for such informative information!

Unless you are always at the doctors office, Plan N is usually a better choice than Plan G. That's what i have. The pool of retirees are usually healthier, so the annual rate increases are less for Plan N. Also, Plan G is the guaranteed issue plan, so it has to take less-healthy seniors, which means higher rate increases. Indeed, excess charges are quite rare.

Oh my goodness! Thank you SO much for this important information! I watched many of your videos and this helped me not feel as confused! I turn 65 in May and was unsure of the coverage “gap” that would be the best for me. Not only at 65, but many years ahead, too! I will apply for Medicare A, B and G. Thanks you❤

I turn 65 in three months. I have watched video after video on the subject over the past few months, and I have learned so much - especially from medicare school. Except for having a pesky enlarged prostate, I am in excellent health. I'm leaning toward plan N for that reason. But I have a call with you folks this week, and I'm sure you will zero me in on what I need and don't need. Now pay Marvin pay more $$$. This guy is a freaking rock star. :)

You should also look into Plan N. My sister who is 69 just switch from a Plan G paying $176/mo to a Plan N with a difference company and her premium is $112/mo. For the difference in premium, she would have to go to a doctor 38 times in one year just to break even on the premiums (with the Plan N copays). I'll be turning 65 in April of 2024 and will be going with a Plan N.

I desperately need your help. You have taught me everything I know about Medicare. I turned 65 this year and enrolled in Medicare and a Plan G. I seem to remember in one of your videos that you spoke of having to log on each year and check the Medicare plans to make sure nothing had changed. Is my memory correct? I am not sure when the enrollment for 2024 begins or what I need to do. Would I just call my plan G and ask if anything has changed? I signed up in June, my birthday month. I remember you saying something about annual renewal. It must be coming soon. I have completely forgotten what you said we needed to do. Please help. Thanks a million!

G is out of reach for many due to cost.

Your other videos are awesome, but this may be my favorite yet.

Also appreciate the one about scammers; I'm good, but for others.

Marvin, Regarding the average cost of the "G" Plan of $125. Just wanted to give you and your team some cost info from New York State. My current monthly premium with Univera is $243.80. Their last increase was 20%. I just received a letter from Univera letting me know that they are requesting another increase from NY State of 66%. I really hope to keep the "G" Plan, but I'm not sure if I will be able to afford it. Thank you. Russ from Buffalo NY.

What about coverage for 65+ Americans living overseas who are non-vets not living near a military base that has hospitals/doctors?

Could you imagine if we did not have insurances that wanted to make this so difficult so they could make money. Instead a health system that really takes care of you without involving theses guys who love the complexity which is how they make money.

Thank you Marvin for your insight and expertise, 1 question, if I choose a supplemental G Plan, can I change G Plans in the future with a lesser price per month G Plan if my rate goes up, or do I have to keep the original G Plan (company) that I started with ?
