To the future people watching this video. The white mage portion of this video is now outdated. The blood lily potency got increased, so lilies are now dps neutral. You're encouraged to use lilies for mobility and healing

The greatest jump in my Astro skill was buying a mouse with twelve buttons

With WHM you forgot to mention that the best time to use benediction is right before the gunbreaker hits Superbolide.

weirdly enough AST was the only healer i instantly clicked with as a beginner

3:28 Just a tip. You can press an oGCD as soon as you start casting and it will queue to go out on the target you used it *as soon as the cast ends*. No need to wait for the cast to end to press the ogcd and quickly switch targets.
You can quickly ogcd the tank and then go back to spamming the damaging button on the boss and trust that as soon as the cast ends you'll ogcd the tank and immediately start casting damages on the boss again :)

As a newbie healer (literally picked the game when Free trial became available) I'm a very, very nervous Scholar. Especially during wall to wall pulls. Though for the most part (Barely level 52, not started Heavensward) I just settle for the Sacred Soil whenever it's off Cooldown while using rest of my kit as needed... Probably not the best Healer out there but then again the class was with me since the start

I'll say this, with how unpredictable players can be in roulette runs, I love whm. The number of ways you can absolutely save someone that is not paying attention (we've all done it), or just oblivious to what about to happen is outstanding. It's not as suited as ast for raiding but I also don't feel like it's a handicap either

As a career scholar, I do notice that some people don't mention the Oh Crap potential of Emergency Tactics for Burst healing. Using Lustrate/Indom (1 or all) right before ETac into Adlo/Succor allows you to heal huge amounts of HP rather quickly, and I usually follow up with a regular Adlo/Succor to top off HP and put barriers back up. and ETac is also a rather short cooldown too, only 15 seconds, so you can use it fairly often if needed, and it doesn't provide any additional resource cost besides an extra click/button.

I recommend AST because your sense of personal progression is more obvious. It's easier to tell the differences among a new AST, good AST and an expert AST. You know when you've gotten better at the class when start weaving cards in between GCDs, healing and resolving mechanics.

Didn't know AST was 'hard'. Just picked it up, had a blast and main it for my healer class. I am more confident with it than using WHM. Definitely will try out SCH next.

When you were talking about SCH I'm surprised you never brought up Excog. It's my go-to ability for light party dungeons and has saved my tank's ass so many times lol

For the longest time my main healer job was White Mage. I loved the way I was able to heal so much in so short a time and even mitigate some damage and I felt like my MP never ran out. This was even better when spamming Holy during mob pulls. A real green DPS. Endwalker changed that unfortunately. Now my main healer is Sage. While harder to play I love the fact that I can heal by doing damage and to have so many barrier spells. My only gripe is that... MP can run out quite fast despite the abilities that restore some amount.

Something else for WHM: it leans into the GCD healer as it has 3 powerful buff spells. Presence of Mind speeds up your casting and is great to use after using a heal or lily to catch up on damage. Normally, WHM can struggle with MP when not using their lilies and sometimes things go south in which you don’t have any lilies or AoE healing. Thin Air works great as a way to pump out a Cure 3 or Médica 2 free of charge or getting in a Raise for free. Otherwise, use it a Glare to keep it from overcapping.

The last ability, Plenary Indulgence is another great buff to your AoE healing. This causes your AoE heals to heal an additional amount. It can be used in various ways: for your AoE lily, when you use Thin Air for a Cure 3, or casting Médica 2 after a large damage.

While they get a bad rap currently, WHM’s powerful healing potential can singlehandedly deal with mechanics that can sometimes take 2 healers (well, until you get to 90 and AST gains Macrocosmos).

It was also one of the first healers to solo heal EW trials and can handle party-wide heal check doom mechanics on it’s own (such as TG Cid) and also the only healer that DRKs love to be with.

That isn’t saying it doesn’t have its fair share of design issues, but it’s still and amazing and powerful job.

(Coming from an omnihealer that prefers to SCH.)

I have played AST, WHM, and SCH.. Your analysis of the jobs are spot on. A barrier healer and a spot healer combined are a really good duo. I started out as a WHM because that was what I played in FFXI and it was familiar. I tried SCH and I just couldn't get into it. Then came AST and it was a game changer for me. I love AST. Yes, it is a lot of clicking and management, but when you have ADD as an adult, it just works for me.

For once, I can appreciate someone's take on Whitemage. So many hate on it due to "lillies are useless and a DPS loss". Yet when I was leveling through the story, you could not find me happier then the day I finally reached Heavensward and finally unlocked the use of said Lillies. Their true power comes from their equal potency to regular GCD heals at no MP cost. This was so liberating after healing through all of ARR without them. And yes, the blood lilly is purely to compensate for the need to heal at times and not meant to be used if no healing was done.

I love scholar. Always did. The duality with summoner was even a reason to lvl my first alt in HW on my friends server.

Despite being simple and obviously somewhat obnoxious, I LOVE Holy for trash pulls. Like you said the interrupt to ground AOE is something people forget about, in addition to the stun!

looking to level a healer i picked up WHM and leveled it up in a month. had so much fun with it and then decided to go to astro, not knowing all the weaving necessary and man... what a change. astro has definitely been one of the most difficult jobs (personally) because it can feel so overwhelming and busy; especially coming from whm! enjoying it a lot but its definitely a huge learnign curve

I LOVE SCH it's just the one I'm most comfortable with and something that I instantly clicked with, don't like WHM at all, AST too fiddly, not tried SGE as of yet I may give it a go here soon.

I was going to try out AST but when the npc was like "the stars foretold you would arrive this day to begin your training" I went "oh actually I'm just passing through" because his reaction to his prophecy being wrong was so funny. I totally forgot about the job as I kept going through msq up to Stormblood lol.

I'll probably go back to try it eventually, but I'm having a lot of fun with WHM and Sage.
