Or maybe moisturize your hair before picking or combing it out because trying to pick your hair out when your hair is dry will cause breakage and damage

I bet there is a lot of shed hair in there! You want to pick your hair out thoroughly every 6-8 weeks and restyle! You want to get all that hair that just spent the last 2 months nesting in your hair ( it's a real problem) then restyle and maintain for another 2 months or so. It's also a great way to experiment and try different styles

The real question isn’t picking or not picking: it’s HOW you pick your hair and with WHAT. Why? Because if you don’t pick your hair, shed hair is going to be trapped in there. And you don’t want that, since you shed about 150 strands of hair every day.

Now, how should you pick your hair? If you want to achieve an afro, then you definitely want to moisturize your hair first. Prior to picking or combing, you should put in your hair: a liquid, like water, rosewater, or aloe vera juice; a cream such as a detangling cream; and some oil, such as jojoba, coconut, or olive in order to seal the moisture in the hair shaft. Then you begin picking from the ends, progressively working your hair down to the roots. But do it gently, always going back up whenever you encounter any resistance or tangles.

With what should you pick your hair? Plastic picks create static electricity. Besides, they are made in a mold from which they are actually two parts or sides merged or glued into one. The result? Seams.

Thus you need seamless picks, especially picks made with wood, horn, or carbon fiber. These kinds of picks both eliminate seams (as they’re usually handmade) and static electricity (which doesn’t seem to be produced by wood, horn, or carbon fiber). This means that the two most probable sources of pick breakage are eliminated. The last source is the force with which you pick out your hair. Here, only you can decide how gentle or not you’re gonna be.

I wash my hair on Saturdays and let it dry till Monday morning where I pick it out. The rest of the days I fluff it out with my hands and I get less tangles come wash day!

what about if you pick every day with a pick that only has 4 teeth?

moisturize and don't use it to detangle but only to puff up, leave any tangles for washday.
that way you can use it daily and still retain a LOT of growth (maybe even more than normal due to blood circulation to the head but that's only if you're weird.
