Global Food Crisis - UN Chief Message

Video Remarks by António Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, at the “Time to Act Together: Coordinating Policy Responses to the Global Food Crisis" - General Assembly high-level special event, 76th session (18 July 2022)

I commend the Committee on World Food Security, the President of the General Assembly, and our Global Crisis Response Group for joining forces at this critical moment.
Our world faces a host of challenges — climate change, COVID-19, conflicts and rising inflation.
Against this backdrop, food, energy and fertilizer prices are skyrocketing, aggravated by the war in Ukraine.
Taken together, this is a recipe for economic hardship, social turmoil, and record levels of hunger.
As the latest State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report reveals, the last two years have already seen a doubling of the number of people who are severely food insecure.
We face a real risk of multiple famines this year.
And next year could be even worse.
But we can avoid this catastrophe if we act now.
And as our meeting theme reminds us, if we act together to craft bold and coordinated policy responses.
This means immediately reintegrating Ukraine’s food production, and Russia’s food and fertilizer, into world markets, and keeping global trade open.
It means tackling the finance crisis in the developing world, and urgently unlocking all possible resources to enhance social protection and support smallholder and family farmers to increase productivity and self-reliance.
And it means transforming food systems at every level — to put affordable, healthy and sustainable diets within reach of every person, everywhere.
The United Nations is committed to working with all of you to solve this crisis, and to continue pressing for a global food system that works for all people.

It's hard to have a secure food producer, when we invest all the eggs in one basket. Truly the short term answer, that we desperately need, is to make it a project to get all the grain that Ukraine may export now. Ukraine will need the direct assistance to reshape the fields, and even add any possible upgrades as we rebuild them. Second, there has to be a way to get basic necessities cover more efficiently. Truly money doesn't grow from trees, but we could setup a way to produce, being sustainable, and bring help to many. What we need is to facilitate an international infrastructure build systems that allows these thigs to happen. We should be able to construct these self-sufficient industries that covers these issues. One idea, that is popular on between natives and holistic with nature ideology, is the implementation and investment on renewable plants such as hemp. Hemp is used to make a variety of commercial and industrial products, including rope, textiles, clothing, shoes, food, paper, bioplastics, insulation, and biofuel. If international grups can help industries to have these industries, it could also mean the development of leyers many types of work that people seek on high risks. Perhaps having international center overlook by UN to provide jobs, materials, food, bio-fuel, medicine. When we have overflow of migration, mostly mean the lack of work. The idea helps bringing fair job opportunities to any zone that would want to grow these products. It will also build up the supply storage with all these products, insuring continuous work on demand and supplies for natural disasters.
