United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has warned of a global food crisis which has been exacerbated as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Guterres said Ukraine and Russia together produce almost a third of the world's wheat and barley and half of its sunflower oil, and Russia and its ally Belarus are the world's number two and three producers of potash, a key ingredient of fertilizer. The secretary-general said the number of people facing severe food insecurity has doubled in just two years from 135 million pre-pandemic to 276 million today.

The names of Dan Dolghin and Sorin Grindeanu were misspelled in the video. We apologize for the mistake.

Why should Russia let the grains be sold, America is shipping weapins to Ukraine, there making the war worse. Rules out of the window in war.

UN only warns about a problem, but never tries to solve it.

The NATO war in Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan already created mass famine for those countries. But if we bring that up, the tears in this comment section magically disappear.

We have to learn to be efficient in using all of our resources, locally independent on food if possible like planting locally grown foods in the backyards instead of buying everything from the grocery.

This video once again bring me under the impression of the importance of railways. And, as a South African, may I report to the world that the South African Railways has been destructed by our corrupt and incompetent government. South Africa has no railway service anymore. It makes me worry. Our ports too - same thing.

If you got a yard then I suggest growing some of your own food. Can be a good hobby growing vegetables and herbs even when the food crisis is over.

who know Ukraine was such a major player in global economics, supplying the whole of the Earth with food supplies, well, like any system, when one area isn't working shift the work load to other areas to cover for the losses. being too dependent on Once Source for anything is a Very Bad Idea in the modern 8 billion people world

Food shortages in the Middle East are the least of my Arab women have an average of 3.9 children. Food shortage not their issue. Family Planning is their current issue.

In 2021, 2 million tons of bread were thrown away in Germany. From the citizens and from the trade. So now is the opportunity to be more careful with food.

1918 – there is a war in Ukraine, the Germans take out trains with grain.
1942 – there is a war in Ukraine, the Germans take out trains with grain.
2022 – there is a war in Ukraine, the Germans are taking out trains with grain.

What ? You sanctioned everything Russian, even Russian cats, but you demand Russia to act dumb and export grains and fertilisers to unfriendly states ? According to Russian officials, this is called cretinism. 🤣

It worries me that we all know its a really bad situation not just for Ukraine, but for a large part of the world. Yet without potentially starting ww3, there seems to be nothing we can do except supply limited weapons to Ukraine .
