Thwaites Glacier is an unusually broad and vast glacier. Known as the 'Doomsday Glacier,' scientists say it is rapidly melting. Sridhar Anandakrishnan is a glaciologist and professor at Penn State University. He explains the danger of global warming's effect on Thwaites Glacier, with the increased melting from the glacier causing sea level rise across the globe.

“The sea levels don’t just rise around Antarctica — they rise everywhere.” He mentions this in case somebody watching this video is completely unfamiliar with how water works. 😂

I love how we believe that economy growth will come from the collapse of the human enterprise at this collosal scale.

We need an appreciation for science & less ignorant doubters thereof.

Makes you realize how stupid war is... sigh.

Thanks for posting this. I am concerned about the West Antarctic ice sheet as well and between these two glaciers, we could see well over 5 m of ocean level rising in just the next 25 years that not even going to the end of the century.

Waterworld was actually a documentary.

In fact, if a significant amount of the ice of Antarctica melts, sea level will fall around Antarctica. This is due to two effects. First, the land of Antarctica will rebound as the weight of the ice is removed. This will give the illusion of sea level falling as the land rises. The second is the horizontal gravitational pull of the ice on the surrounding water being removed and releasing this water to flow northward. This is an actual fall of sea level. I have heard an estimate of 8 meters sea level fall around Antarctica if all the ice was removed. Of course this released water will raise sea level a little in the rest of the world.

Very interesting really like this documentary.

Save the Glaciers . It took hundreds of thousands of years for these glaciers to be formed. They cannot be destroyed in our lifetime.

Just read an article that this is melting faster than expected!

It’s remarkable that so many scramble to find viable solutions to these crises-when the problem is endemic to the human condition. Greed. Selfishness. More greed. No other species comes close to our insolence.

We are the problem.

The planet will recover nicely when we are gone-which is inevitable. Humans have no business existing. We only destroy.

immediate cooling is needed, the most studied method is solar geoengineering, which involves reflecting sunlight back into space by injecting aerosols into the stratosphere, mimicking the cooling effect of volcanic eruptions.

Awesome video, extremely informative for the novice interested in glaciers and global warming.

The planet warms, then cools, then warms, then cools. And sea-levels go up and down. And coastlines move. And people move. It's not complicated, and it ain't no disaster. Any questions?

Also all of the Glaciers are made out of fresh water and when they dumped that fresh water into the ocean they throw off the salinity of the ocean which throws off the currents in the ocean which causes major major climate problems

You forget methane as a green house gas, impacting our climate. Though in volume it is less, and accumulated for a shorter time methane is 25 times more dense.
