Intrinsic vs Extrinsic Motivation. 🌟 | Motivated Mondays

Yayyy welcome back to Motivated Mondays, where I share a motivational concept of some kind in the hope of inspiring your week! This week, I wanted to quickly discuss different sources of motivation - what is the difference between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation? Which is more sustainable?

Something we often skip is self reflection. WHY do we do what we do? Is it JUST to impress your Mum? To get that A*, which you're frankly terrified of not achieving? Or because you love the process of learning? You love knowing that you work hard? Have a cheeky think. The answers may surprise ya. 🦋

You are the extrinsic driving force for our intrinsic motivation. Thank you so much for this!

I think my motivation has always been extrinsic. :( As much as I've tried to focus on what I want, I can't seem to escape the external pressures... But it's a process, and I hope that when I get to university (away from all the people whose expectations I feel pressured to meet!) I'll be able to focus more on my own goals. Thanks for this video Jade x

I usually don't comment that often, but I really love the idea behind motivated Mondays and want you to keep doing them!
I love how you appreciate education so much even though you're already done with school!

Every time I feel unmotivated I go watch your results day video and smile every time I see you grin at your results. "This is why" idk but that is the one external factor I think motivates me

I am at university and I study subjects that I want to study, but sometimes it's hard to realize that, especially when I am procrastinating on my required readings... Your Motivated Mondays are truly an inspiration to me. I will try to find some time to just write down what I love about all subjects and why. I think it will help me to understand why I want to get that work done and feel better about my studies :)

Just got rejected from the grammar school I applied to for 6th form, but I’m remembering your inspirational video on how to face rejection💙

This is what I am learning in school, motivation (there are perspectives of motivation, congnitivist, behaviorist, constructivist motivation). And most of them (in a way) work. But not only as students we should search for them but also Teachers have to help us a little bit with our motivation style.

Such an important video Jade! Reminds me of this Swedish short film that airs every Christmas Eve about a teenage boy with a really genuine work ethic completely driven by intrinsic motivation and principles. His take home message, roughly translated, is “A job well done leads to an intrinsic sense of satisfaction and is the foundation of our society”. He’s really, really bad at his job but I think it’s such a great message that it’s not all about success, it’s about doing your best and seeking that intrinsic satisfaction.

Thank you so much for this! Recently I felt so unmotivated and stressed because my motivation was just based on the fear of not getting a good grade. But now I want to find the fun in learning new things again and focus on the studying itself. So thank you that you still keep doing your motivational videos for school!

loved this video, this video is so essential right now as I'm pretty sure all of us are doing hard core revision because of the fear of failing/not meeting our grades for uni. This has made me think about year 13 in a whole new perspective! much needed x

The content you’ve been posting recently helped me so much lately. Like just right now, I just ended a 2 hours session of proactive work (the wooden spoon anyone) for it to be part of my 80% of success.
I loved the topic of this video!! I personally struggle with having intransic motivation because I just don’t have it naturally. I just want to succeed because my family wants me to, if it was up to me I’d litterally do nothing with my life oopsss but you brought that problem to my attention with this video and I’ll try to work on it!!

I never really thought of motivation in this way, so thank you for shedding light on it!! I think a lot of people do motivate themselves extrinsically these days, especially because there's this growing fear/notion that every minute you don't spend doing something to work towards a certain goal means you're being unproductive and not utilising your time which is definitely why that sort of motivation is fleeting and like you said, unsustainable. I'm guilty of this myself. I'm definitely going to work towards making my motivation more intrinsic because it'll definitely work out better for me in the long run. thank you for another wonderful video jade! (and happy belated birthday too!!) 🌻

Love this! There’s also a lot of links to how we should measure our success. We shouldn’t measure our success on external factors e.g. how much money we make, how many friends we have. Because those aren’t constant or in our control. We should measure success internally e.g confidence, self worth, ability to talk to people. Because those are within our control. Love ya jade! XX
