In the wild, Hammerheads eat stingrays. They hunt them out of the sand.

This is like putting a great white (if they could survive in captivity) and seals/sea lions in a shared enclosure.

A lot of comments are pointing out that hammerheads are natural predators of stingrays and them being kept together is why that happened, but I do want to point out that, even here, this is extremely rare. Chances are that cow nose ray had some kind of disease, and the shark took notice. Hammerheads also don’t typically go for rays that swim in the water column, they instead attack bottom-dwelling stingrays since they can easily pin them down with their heads and they can’t get away. It’s also rare considering the animal is well fed. So that ray was definitely in pain or was sick. I take this as a great example of how sharks help out their environment by promoting survival of the fittest. Incidents like these are rare, but they will happen eventually. These are large opportunistic predators that take advantage of sick and weak prey.

I love how the sea turtle is not remotely concerned about what is happening a few feet away from it
