You can literally tell just by looking at the rough that it is mid grade quality.

The quality you want is gem quality, Emerald (Green Beryl, it is a Beryl an 8 on the MOHS scale) is known for having some black inclusions and sometimes small air pockets, but you want to be able to see through it as if it is glass.

If those were Cat's Eye Emeralds they would have been decent, but they weren't. They were just plain old mid grade Emeralds. I have some pretty high quality Lattice Feldspars of all colors and varieties, and thankfully I was able to root out the specimens from the true gems and buy mostly the true gems of them.

Raw stones are such a gamble. I've got about 15 lbs of unusable raw gems. Worth about $20k but it should be millions

It depends if the previous owner of the stones went through vast quantity's of the stones and separated them previously and then you buy a vast quantity of low grade stones from him and find nothing good
