I feel like iPads are now like a monster truck with a Ferrari engine. Sounds cool. But it’s an iPad… not a computer. If it actually was .. ehh. Not paying for a fast car (iPad) when I only need a Prius.

I ditched my laptop for an iPad Pro 6 years ago and never looked back. As an artist, it is the single best product Apple has ever made. Not only is it the best digital sketchbook with the Apple pencil… it does everything better than my laptop ever could. It’s better for content creation & media consumption. Plus it’s lighter & thinner than any laptop. I love this thing. I know some complain that it doesn’t run MacOS. Perhaps Apple someday will enable an iPad to run MacOS, But I don’t care. I have completely adopted to an iPad OS only workflow. My 2018 iPad Pro still kicks ass, but I may finally be tempted to upgrade to one of the new OLED iPad Pros with the new Apple Pencil.

It’s a hardware incompatibility not software. The camera moving from the portrait, to the landscape orientation require them to change the magnet/charging configuration on the iPad and in the pencil itself. They are physically incompatible with older models.

The new iPad air I think is the more reasonably option now! 128GB base storage, M2 chip which is awesome, can do all the things that average people want from an iPad but with good price now. I have the M1 256gb and it’s super fast and capable

There's a technical reason why they had to update the 6 year old v2 pencil the way they did. Users have been complaining for years about the FaceTime camera being way off to the left in landscape orientation, but moving the camera to the long side required re-engineering the pencil charging and magnet configuration. This unfortunately meant breaking compatibility in both directions. Yes it’s annoying, but it's not arbitrary.

A few mistakes. The 11" iPad Pro is 5.3mm thin. The 13" iPad Pro is 5.1mm. And the increase in price is actually half as indicated because the base storage was doubled. The Pencil compatibility can't be updated via software -- the placements of the magnets to attach is different because of the new front-facing camera setup, and the haptics and other new features.

PENCIL PRO ... Well, I bought the original Pencil, didn't use it much. Bought the updated Pencil for my iPad Pro 11 in 2018 ... still haven't used it much. If I buy a new iPad this year, as I was planning to, I don't plan to buy another Pencil since I likely won't use it. I don't do a lot of drawing and prefer to use my finger for pointing.

What I do a good bit of is photography and, given that my cameras have now settled into the 40-60 Mpixel range, the iPad Pro's M4 chip seems a sensible investment in processing power for doing raw conversion and rendering. A 1T storage system also seems a good investment given the successful use of my existing iPad Pro 11" with 1T storage the past five-six years.

As to what this all means for Apple's future and AI stuff, well, Apple I'm sure has their future plans well in hand, and I use very little of AI stuff. Never use it in photography, never use it other than where it does sensible things like improve search capabilities, etc.

I wish the iPad had the battery life of 13 inch macbook air. That would made it a more pro consumer device.

I ordered the 11 inch Pro and Apple trade in value for my 2020 iPad Pro $385😀 I’m super happy

Presumably The pencil is not compatible because they needed to change how the pencil. Charges when moving the camera to landscape mode

Awaiting on WWDC to pull the trigger on an Air or Pro. But ultimately awaiting the new mini.

Seems ok but as a creative with a macbook and wacom i'll just stick with that until m5 I think. Wacom also announced the Wacom Movink 13 which looks amazing for designers with a laptop.

Give us an iPad with more than one port and maybe even a card reader. And a calculator app while we’re at it.

Would you care for a thinner iPad or one with more battery that lasts longer and before you jump saying it already lasts all day, think in 3 years time it could have done less charge cycles, so the battery will be in a better condition !!! Oleds and Tandem Oleds have burnins. So Apple have released a tech that’s new, for which there is no benchmark. I have lost an iPad because of a software update from Apple and because it was out of warranty they wanted me to pay the entire cost of the iPad for just another 3 months of warranty. So my view is wait and watch before you jump

I’ve never had an iPad before but if I do really well in my exams my parents will let me get one. I’m tempted towards the pro as it’s only a couple hundred more expensive and with lots of features and should last me a while. What do you think? I was also wondering if I should get a MacBook instead as my laptop is very old and I’m looking to replace it with either an iPad or MacBook. What do you think?

I love my iPad Mini. It's still fast, still powerful, and I can't imagine what improvements a new version would have that would make me upgrade.

The new apple pencil is only compatible with the new models is because of the magnet and wireless charging array update from the old models. Something about fixing their prior mistake of moving the selfie camera to the landscape.
