I love playing without minis. I love playing with them too. Sometimes you're just having fun with your little dollys and sometimes you're weaving worlds in the minds of others.

Perhaps minis and boards could be used as a way to remember great moments in a campaign (similar to lego sets of popular shows), but then again, custom portraits would probably be cheaper

i use minis but i just show them like i would show a picture or painting. (they aren't play pieces)

You do realise that the game was designed to use battlemaps, right? If you're playing in the classic style it's the easiest way to work out LoS, AoE, cover, range, etc, etc. Just don't be a slave to it. Or play a different game!
