This would not bother me as much if they were willing to commit an equal amount of money to help the children that are starving to death right now. Family planning seems to be a higher priority to them than helping the ones who are already alive and are literaly dying for their help right this minute.

That's true, teenage girls getting pregnant isn't a sudden development but it's probably the first time in history we've had not only the technical and medical advances to prevent this but also more cultural, social and educational support for women to take charge of their own bodies sensibly and without ridicule. Obviously, as the video points out not all women have this privilege (like me from the UK) but it's through confident empowerment and education we can help make a big change :)

while you may be correct, if a contraceptive fails, abortion is used like a contraceptive. To prevent pregnancy, granted, in abortion a pregnancy has already been started. But most of the reasons that women decide to have an abortion are the same as why they use contraceptives. But here's a thought: Although PP is so focused on contraceptives, they know that they will come to PP for their abortion WHEN the contraceptives fail. So much for teaching people how to use contraceptives.

And of COURSE pleasure is the meaning of life! Do you not find life pleasurable? I find pleasure in helping my friends and family, spending time outdoors, surfing the internet, working, walking, thinking--lots of things I find pleasurable. I wouldn't really like it if life wasn't about pleasure. And if people find pleasure in single or multiple partners, I wouldn't judge them. It's their life choice. There is a reason that humans don't have litters like some other animals; it takes a huge investment of resources to raise a child to adulthood. High birth rates made some level of sense when a) a high percentage of children didn't survive past the age of 5, and b) when human society was largely agrarian, so that children helped on the farm and served as a sort of retirement plan. This is not the world we live in now, and there is much evidence that larger family size is correlated to poverty.

Fair enough, but the issue is that women in countries without contraceptive or any time of information on family planning statistically have more children at a younger age. The mothers in this instance usually cannot support themselves and their children and this leads to hunger and poverty. By allowing women to plan for having a child when they are financially stable and able to support their children, it leads to a stronger and more stable country, not to mention less poverty and sickness.

I hate to point it out, and I'm actually in favour of access and education, but the best way to be empowered and decide when she wants children is to keep her legs closed, people complained that the pope refused to condone contraceptives but fail to remember he advocated abstinence.

All women should be able to understand this. If we get pregnant it is our lives that are at risk, our lives that are put on hold, our families that are put under financial strain. Abstract moral arguments based in religions that astoundingly not all of us subscribe to should not trump a women`s right to control her own life.

The way to handle poverty is to attack its root causes -- not to eliminate the poor. How patronizing, cynical, and cruel it is to say "better that they not be born, so they don't suffer." It's a lot cheaper and easier than asking"how do we alleviate their suffering?"
