Its pretty cool what Apple has been able to accomplish with cinematic mode. But it does require some specific things in order for it to look the best.

Nice review. Lots of reviewers are being pretty harsh on cinematic mode because it's not perfect, but this is by far good enough for the average person to get creative and have some cool results that could spark an interest in pursuing film, students making a project for school, or the average person just wanting a decent recording to post on social media, or even influencers with lots of followers. Really opens things up for the layperson vs what was available just a few years ago

Dude that looked great! And 1000% agree, the trick to get it to look good is raising that F stop. Helps with fringing and all that ish too

Great video man! Cinematic Mode is so cool. I’m currently using it for my video assignments at uni and as you said, if you dial the f stop at 7-8ish, it looks really good.

Those who want to take portrait photos with their phone should definitely go with the Pro or Pro Max, because the portraits with the telephoto lens look fire 🔥

Very good content. How I wish I could afford this kind of phone. It's so disappointing I can't even buy an iphone 6. Watching your videos makes me happy imagining I'm the one using that phone :(

Great little video. Short, concise and very well done. I find your last few comments to be the most interesting. The conversation I am continually having with all the industry people I work with in Hollywood at all levels from Indie guys to A-list producers is where is the end product going to be viewed and on what kind of device? How should that effect our production budget? In addition to TV, commercials, and live theatre, I have written and directed numerous award winning films for more than 20 years. My films have played in 1000 seat plus theaters all over the world, but now almost anything I make will be viewed on a phone or tablet. Love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks again.

Very informative! As a big fan of flat zoom I’m never gonna use this mode but I learned what it is and why I don’t like it.
And the reason for me not liking it is that it’s emulating old imperfect technology of old times cameras that couldn’t provide perfect sharpness at all zoom scale.
A nice clear picture is turned into blurry mess, for what reason??? Besides highlighting advertised objects in advertisements I don’t see the use of it. Whenever I see it in cinema I feel like producer was stingy on providing realistic background what is very common in SF movies. Where space is blurred because it is just poorly painted.
I would love to see Star Wars with detailed images of cosmos from Hubble telescope, clear breath taking background and clear also breath taking first plan ship fight.
Sadly it’s all blurred and darken to cover up for poor graphics.

Cool video, the iPhone is a REAL camera haha. Technically, 3 REAL cameras 😃 A more accurate term would be to say if you didnt have a "dedicated" camera to shoot with, you could use an iPhone. I agree with stopping it down as well, looks more realistic. Used cinematic mode for a product shoot the other day and the client loved it. This is also the first iteration of it, its only going to get better.
