All tires have a manufactured date code located near the bead of the tire. There are four numbers in an oval. The date will be the week and year of production, example 07/21
so seventh week (February) of the year 2021.
A good rule of thumb if the tire is over seven years old, replace it.
Stay safe out there.

Took a Tacoma to the dealership for an oil change and they said 2 tires needed to be replaced because the sidewalls had bubbles. Funny thing is the tires where 2 weeks old. Ask them not to do anything about it and when I got the vehicle back I looked for myself on the ones they said had damage. I didn't see anything so I drove over to Goodyear where I got them and asked them to do a inspection. There was nothing wrong with the tires in any way shape or form. Always get a second opinion if you can't see the alleged damage.

Another indication is, if you can see the air in your tires, well you know what to do.

i never knew a bubbled sidewall was that dangerous. i let my last set get too old then. appreciate the heads up Mr. Scotty.

Don’t get a cheap car wash where they use old cooking oil to give your tires a showroom shine. That oil is killing the sidewalls and it will eventually kill you.

Good advice. General rule of lifetime of a tyre on average: 7 years.

Also make sure your spare has air in it. I pulled mine out to check the air and it had 5 pounds in it, it takes 60.

I changed my tires last week. The shop said I could get two more years, except the sidewalls were weathered. Yep time for new tires.

Is there a way to protect your tyres, apart from hiding them in shadow? Sunscreen?

Wish I saw this sooner. Took the car to AAA...twice for paid inspections. Had a blowout on the highway. Went back to look at the pictures AAA took of the tires on inspection that they okayed. lol and behold, zooming in, the tires had dry rot cracks all over. The rep on the phone said they don’t fail tires b/c of dry rot. Well okay but wtf, tell me at least. Why am I the one inspecting the damn car I paid them to inspect.

And periodically spray the sidewalls, even inside and treat with 303 Protectant . This will resist the rubber from drying out / cracking .

People will only replace them when they blow. They think it’ll be a gentle process like a knock on the head, when it blows out at 90(cause people are insane these days) they won’t learn until it happens. They’re thought process (I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it) then they sue for billions when it leaves them stranded on the expressway lanes
