I would have expected him to touch on the history way more than just post-WW2. Because there's a lot of important context there:

Ever since the fractured German states first united in 1871, Germany has played in the big leagues. The German Empire used its newfound stability and dedicated resources to keep up with the industrial revolution that was in full swing at the time. Using its native coal reserves, large shippable rivers, fertile land, some well coordinated industrial espionage _and_ policies to appease the workers, they were soon competing for the spot as the world's strongest economy - at times even beating out the US and UK.

After losing WW1, even with the crippling restrictions placed on Germany by the treaty of Versailles and a radical change in government, it didn't take long for it to regain that top spot. In this volatile space between the end of the monarchy and the Great Depression, a lot of the corner stones for the modern German politics and economy were laid, with around a dozen parties of vastly different positions fighting for control - some royalists, some commercially motivated, some communists, some religious, some nationalists, and some the political arm of worker unions.

This and the disruption of the Great Depression and WW2 meant that Germany didn't have as many and as powerful established elites by the time they created their new constitution and economic system. Between the previously very active political landscape, the dehumanizing group mentality of the Nazi regime and the population's general focus on their own survival over larger political questions in the ruins of war, it was important to establish a system that cared for its citizens and created a robust foundation to build on. It's build to sustain the work force and ensure economic stability from the bottom up - and while it has since been somewhat eroded away on, it still manages to do so.

Any able plumber, painter and decorator, mason or car mechanic makes a very good living in Germany. And very few people are looking down on them. Their skills are very much appreciated in Germany. Because everyone needs them, and everyone wants them to be competent.

Sir
as a german this is how i was raised. JUST SPEND THE MONEY YOU ACTUALLY HAVE IN YOUR POCKET. Make plans before spending. Like calculate rent, insurances etc before. My dad told me always have 3 paychecks in your account, so you wount get broke if some unexpected payments are coming. And it works. Another important things i learned the hard way, never borrow money from a friend, it WILL destroy friendship. For sure. If you are, for some reasons, go into dept, do everything to get out of it, even when it means you are eating rice only, for a month. Does that make any sence to you Sir?

Well I am Austrian, it’s all the same and we actually almost just produce stuff for Germany, since they r so much bigger. But gdp Is the same per capita, and so r all the systems. It’s the benefit of also being a German speaking country, it’s easy and comfortable to work with us.

As long as being a worker is a dead end and frowned upon in a country, work is not being good. If work is not good, the economy isn't doing well, and i don't mean finance economy. That's not economy, that's the opposite! Greetings from Germany... :)

18:40 I can imagine it, since i make roughly that amount (before taxes though), about 40% gets cut and goes into taxes, which in turn covers retirement funds, health care, the safety net if I were to lose my job and so on.

the main reason is you dont have to worry about your healthcare because its free and your paid holiday leave of about 5 to 6 weeks a year and of cause the paid national holidays and you get sickdays of 6 weeks per 6 month...thats great...and cant affort your rent because if you get less money that you earn you get money from the goverment to pay for your apartment..and social security...greetings from Germany..

3400 / month - before taxes. Actually, the annual average wage is 42.000 €, I think. BEFORE taxes and taxes are pretty high. Before I switched jobs last year i was making 22.000 after taxes. Full time job, good education. That is of course on the low end of things, where you can only live in a 1-bedroom apartrment and have no car or savings (if you have to support children, like I do).

800USD a month? Where!? In freaking rich USA??

Dude here, in Eastern Europe (Warsaw, Prague) you can make 1200USD a month as a non-skilled construction worker.
And Eastern Europe is like 6 times poorer and 2 times cheaper than USA.
...
And education is free up to age of 26.
And public health care is free, only the private one is paid and often of better quality.
