I've got an Alienware laptop and I'm definitely sticking to gaming laptops since nowadays they me give more than enough the gaming experience I need. En plus, being able to take them with you and play wherever you like (cafe, airport, hotel room...) is simply priceless! And let’s not forget that allows you to work, communicate, learn and entertain yourself anywhere too.

Desktop Pros: Everything else

a desktop pc has been my dream ever since i was a kid. But current market prices for pc parts have skyrocketed so much that a rtx 3060 laptop is better value than a equivalent desktop pc

The thing is, a lot of people don’t want to put in the time and effort to research and build their own desktop, so even though you could get a much better computer for the money doing that, I think the convenient package of having something comparable in a laptop is a big selling point. For me it was the fact that I needed a good laptop for school, and my desktop at the time was getting really obsolete. I got a dell g5 15, it’s not the most powerful computer in the world but it’s a huge upgrade from my desktop and it can run literally anything. With some of the more demanding games you definitely wanna mess around with settings a bit, but I was seriously blown away by the performance. Gaming laptops are great for college students who can’t bring their desktop setup to the dorm and want to do pc gaming, because they can also do literally anything you could possibly need for school/work. And obviously they will never catch up to desktops with performance, but the performance of them has gotten so good at this point that it really doesn’t matter all that much. People are very picky with gaming PCs, they have to have the most expensive and fancy components and the highest possible specs, but you literally don’t need that to play the majority of games. At a certain point you’re just spending more money for more performance that you won’t even use. I think spending like $1000-$1500 on a nice gaming laptop is a great option for a lot of people

Gotta say gaming laptops are really good these days I have a 2019 asus gaming laptop and I really don't want to get back to using desktops.

If I can get something small that i can take anywhere and can run most things at 1080p 60fps, I'm perfectly happy with that.

One big point for me is power consumption. Desktop definitely performs way better, but when the graphics card alone draws more power than an entire laptop does I can't help but think of all those led lightbulbs we're using to save energy.

Personally I would just build a full desktop PC at home + a light laptop with no discrete gpu for when I'm travel or something like that

Used to be on the desktop, but I love my laptop and don't see myself going back to a desktop for PC gaming. I really enjoy the flexibility a gaming laptop provides.

one thing to keep in mind is that, unless im mistaken, neither of these laptops have a mux switch, so optimus is always on. this affects cpu performance quite a bit.

My current desktop is aging but it’s still serving me well. I am also interested in a laptop for mobility when I’m not able to be at my desk so these new laptops are more than enough for me.
