Good luck to you...liked and subscribed. My wife has had 3 Wrangler Rubicons in a row, and now has a 2024 Willys 4xe, with charging problems here at home apparently not related to the Jeep. Without charging, due to the huge weight, her mpg on gas is worse than on her Rubicons. She loves 'em; we DO have fun in our 1 week of off roading each summer on the beach at OBX, but I confess to being amazed at what a cult car Wranglers are. They simply are less reliable than almost any domestic vehicle, with a boatload of electrical system failures as well as mechanical problems. A complete apples and oranges remark, but I'll stick with Honda ANY day. Jeep knows how to build sturdy, flexible, rough 'n tumble vehicles, but they do NOT know how to build reliable vehicles, after all these years (and I've had Jeep dealer technicians fully agree). There is no excuse for these huge numbers of failures. My opinion is if you're really an off-roader, Wranglers make sense and then some, despite the absurd overpricing (the Willys was 62+k!). My sedate, refined, and reliable 2023 CRV Sport Touring hybrid is loaded, and 23-24k less. If you're buying one just because they look cool, but you don't off road, RECONSIDER. My wife loves her detachable hardtop, so she wouldn't consider a Subaru Outback Wilderness, which is not a rock crawler (but is fine for beaches)...but neither does my wife engage in such tomfoolery. She pays for it, so hubby has no imaginary veto power. Maybe the 22k extra is worth it for the waves on the highway. Sheesh! With a .47CD, you may get 21 electric miles in the urban cycle, but if you're pulling onto the highway with that kind of drag and weight, good luck! :D

Great content. We're considering a 4xe and this is good info... Hopefully a 2023/2024 model will not have as many teething issues.

The front end creaking was the “cotter pins” not ball joints .. Super easy fix.
The charging system problem indicator was prior to the sudden loss of power notification. As mentioned, waiting for the update was smart. The recalls have been minimal. As mentioned the dealers have access to the technical hotline. So solving an issue is pretty seemless ..The 4Xe is nothing more than excellent .. his wife’s comments are spot on ! Power, mileage, fit and finish, overall value is fantastic .. the lease deal is amazing .. JMO !

Jeep build quality is very good, I had issue with My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Overland 4x4 2.0 liter engine.
Whe I purchased vehicle in 2020 with 8, 500 miles I checked carfax I had noticed build date was June 2018 red flags because one of early productions, being new body style and new engine 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine with intercooled turbo.
After 2 years I got a error code of "Electronic throttle control" I had it towed to CDJR dealership and diagnosed problem was wiring harness that insulation was worn to point that bare wiring was preventing communication from throttle to Electronic throttle control computer jeep would idle, no throttle response.
Covered under Mopar warranty, I talked to technician at dealership I said sounds like build quality issue She said yes, Wiring harness going though metal chassis did not have rubber grommet installed, that why wiring harness failed.
Only issue I have had with the jeep now I have 43, 000 miles I get 26.0 mpg combined.

Great vehicle would not hesitate to buy another Jeep, My boss owned 2 Wranglers likes shifting in and out of 4 wheel drive, first SUV I have ever owned.

I have the 2024 4xe Willy’s only complaint is the tires don’t do good on wet roads but don’t know about snow/ice but will find out soon but besides that it’s amazingly great vehicle and we love it period, ..z

It’s interesting how I have a 2021 4xe Sahara and we have completely different experiences! Good and bad!

I have a Honda Clarity plug-in hybrid and I have often charged next to a 4xe. My car is awesome in the summer but sucks in the winter. I basically have a mid sized Honda Accord powered by a Civic engine. If you have no torque being supplied by a full, warm battery you are screwed on the highway. I hope that Jeep didn’t make that design mistake. The car really looks great on the outside.

Yup after I did the recall update kept getting charge port failure etc, my fix was to turn the amperage on my grizzl e charge box to 24 amps vs the 32 amps it was at originally, so it added a extra 30mins of charge time, so I'm not going to fool with the updates from here on out

Just had a 24 4Xe Sahara as a rental, and honestly I liked it (kinda). The 4 cylinder was very peppy and quick, way more torque than my old 2015 3.6 Penastar. The 27 mile range EV system is a total joke, and the hybrid system is also very inefficient. The rest of the vehicle was well built, comfortable, and pretty luxurious for a Jeep.

Mine has been in form for 4 months now and electric is never available. MY oil life went to 0% after 3 weeks of changing the oil. Ridiculous. Why no recall for this problem. I can never drive in electric mode and I keep getting the oil change message after 1000 km of driving. I am so angry.

Good honest take. Glad you didn’t take the early bugs as a killer. It’s new tech and Jeep. Some of those bugs go with the territory.

I really want a e-jeep, but it seems I’m stuck with my dated 4Runner.

Wonder what they did to prevent carbon build up? The most reliable direct injection engines have both direct and port FI. Ford learned with their Gen 2 Ecoboost engines they needed the fuel to keep valves clean. Lexus had it at least a decade before that.

April, question for you as I have been considering purchase of the 4xe for some time now. My daily work commute, one way is 20 miles. With the range of the 4xe, would it be more efficient being in hybrid mode for the trip to work and home, or running on electric to work and gas on the return? Is there a way to calculate what mpg I would be getting with a 40 mile total commute?

I had an 18 JLUR but the stupid clutch recall they could never fix.. I genuinely miss my Jeep, but how they could screw up a clutch with no fix ever is beyond me.. I still think the most reliable version of this is the v6 and automatic transmission. I do though really want a 24 4xe

Now would you say it was worth the purchase? I’m looking to buy a used 4xe 2021-2022, and my commute in one day because of work and coming back home is a total of 75-80 miles. We have a charger at work that is free which I am stoked for, for when I purchase a plugin hybrid or fully electric vehicle. Even thought the estimated electric range is 21 for the wrangler, I am just worried about the maintenance and gas since I have noticed it only takes premium.

I've read articles that say the 4xe does not work in electric only mode in colder climates. In fact, some 4xe owners are forming a class-action lawsuit against Jeep over the none-performance of some of its hybrid electric vehicles.
