UPDATE: Liquid gold | Carte Blanche | M-Net

In South Africa, diesel is liquid gold – it's in high demand, easy to trade and difficult to trace. That is why organised crime syndicates are cashing in. In October last year, we investigated cross-border tax fraud in diesel imports. The story had far-reaching implications... Since our exposé, industry leaders and investigators have been cracking down on illicit traders with some success.

To those who are upset by this information and are commenting here and elsewhere:

I hope you understand that if you, your family, or friends don't start asking important questions about "CHEAP" fuel, and continue supporting criminals just to save a few Rands, all you’ll be left with soon are the dodgy, corrupt thieves.

Legitimate and honest traders are disappearing, and there aren’t many of us left. Even some of the bigger private brands should be properly investigated.

Why are we importing, dont we make fuel from coal at Sasol, and it cost much less than importing.
I am glad this is exposed, but what damage is mixed fuel costing the end user?

If the government doesn't take the country's laws seriously and have proper majors in place to prevent crime or to even stop it, then why should everybody do. 😢 The ones in leadership, knows exactly what's happening😢

Disel pryses need to be regulated really. This weekend saw disel prices at different petrol stations from between R20.75 to R23:89. Some places even more.

As much as I love Carte Blanche, we don't see nearly enough action from police and prosecutors on our findings

You dont need a weigh bridge to observe a tanker carrying 60, 000l vs claimed 40, 000l - but you do need bribe less civil servants ...
