Traded on the black market, it’s highly lucrative. From diesel skimming to tanker hijackings and petrol depot robberies: over the years, Carte Blanche has investigated multiple criminal networks fuelling the illicit trade in what's known as liquid gold. But as old schemes are exposed, criminals evolve. Now fuel spiking – blending diesel with cheaper ingredients, often paraffin – has taken off on an industrial level. It’s a criminal MO affecting every South African and costing the country millions of every day.  After several months investigating these illicit operations, we uncover an elaborate cross-border tax fraud scheme.

Solution: Every truck that goes to Mozambique for fuel import should declare 60000 litres. If they declare anything less than that or the weigh bridge is broken, they should still be taxed for the amount of 60000 litres of fuel. LOOPHOLE CLOSED.

I'm actually so tired of watching video after video of scumbags that never meet justice.

This is the part that makes me love journalism, the investigative part. It’s risky though it is worth doing because it saves people and sometimes put the criminals behind bars.

The biggest reason that something like this is viable, is that we are over taxed on fuel. (Not only fuel)

This problem goes beyond diesel...with me working in the mining industry, you will realise that this type of criminality happens with all commodities mined in this country. It's very sad to see because such things have an effect on our economy let alone the companies or organisations themselves. It has a huge negative knock on effect in the value chain

I knew something like this was up because the way petrol finishes so quick nowadays is just ridiculous. The entire country is paying the price to stuff the pockets of a few greedy pigs, absolute disgrace!

"If you don't have a conscience, you can make a lot of money easily." seems like a way to make money these days..Go to school to become a smart criminal.

How did our country get to this point. There are scammers, criminals, gangsters, cartels, druglords, fraudsters, racketeers, money launderers and thiefs, you name it in every square inch of the land. Whenever I have to buy or sell a product or service, I have to scrutinize its authenticity, the seller's/buyer's credibility, and carry out various verifications on information. Usually, things are not as they seem. Unfortunately, one always finds out the hard way. That's why I have decided to follow this channel.
