How to File a VA Claim for Secondary Service Connection

preview_player
Показать описание
If you have a service-connected disability, you may be able to file a secondary VA claim for a new disability that is linked to the original disability. If you want to increase your VA disability rating and your VA benefits then a Secondary VA claim is something you should consider filing. For example, if you have service-connected PTSD and develop sleep apnea as a result of the PTSD, you can file a secondary claim for the sleep apnea.

To file a secondary claim, you will need to provide medical evidence linking the new disability to the original service-connected disability. The VA will then review your claim and make a determination on whether or not to award benefits.

35 years after my discharge I filed for tinnitus and got 10%. 3 years later I filed for Major Depressive Disorder secondary to my tinnitus. The C & P examiner awarded me 100% P & T.

Guys, right now the VA is processing claims at lightning speed. I don't know this for sure but it seems like this might be one of the best times to get a claim in. I am 2 for 2 all within the last couple of months.

I wish I found you years ago. Permanently 30% for my left knee (replaced). Just had my left hip replaced...was told no to compensation. Had my right knee replaced, but didn't disclose I had issues while I was in. ( I was a weapons loader - 462/2W1 - for 5 of my 10 years in). Was told no to my right knee replacement as well.

Right shoulder impingement with arthritis secondary to service connected left shoulder arthritis/degenerative changes at 20%

Both knees primary at 10% each. Connected to ankles. Limitations in exercise led to Diabetes Type 2. Also requested increase on primary. Looking good. Should know in a month or so. VA doc I saw said there’s definitely a connection in my C&P exam and that he’s detected arthritis in knees and ankles. Last guy in 2019 was more interested in hearing about the women I’d bedded while in the service. COVID happened and I waited to appeal after that denial for increase.

Hello Craig! I just stumbled on you! I have 50% PTSD AND 10 % Tinnitus both service connected. I would like to do the Gerd for secondary off my PTSD. Am I automatically given a C&P exam for this? 5:20

For the GERD example...

Let's say you have a diagnosis for GERD with no explanation on how it was caused.

Would you "need" documentation from a doctor stating that the GERD was caused specifically by the mental health medication in order to submit a secondary claim?

Or, can you just make the secondary claim and provide a statement saying that your diagnosis of GERD was caused by the mental health medication?

I wish you would do a little visual tutorial on this. I am on my individual ratings list right now and there is no "pull down" maybe they changed that function since you made this video?

Brother Craig, man you are always on point with your videos! Where can I find these books at so I can help out other Veterans as well as myself?

Awesome information CC. I notice in several videos you have a resource area that shows the "qualifying" criteria for each diagnosis. Example, you showed Gerd and what the break down is to qualify for 60, 30 and 10. Where can I get that info to help file my claim?
Thanks for what you do for all of us!
