It must have been an amazing experience to be part of a lighthouse crew in those conditions. Nowadays British lighthouses are all automated and only maintenance crews go into them every few months to keep the equipment in good shape. Those people standing around taking photos on the shore in many of the scenes were extremely reckless - especially the ones at the start of the video. They were far too close to the sea - even at that distance (as the spray water on the camera lenses testifies). People have been swept away by unexpected waves on many occasions because they thought they were far enough away to be safe.

I want to see what it looks like from the inside of a lighthouse when these waves hit.

One important correction. The keeper of the phare de la Jument was not at all trying to leave during the storm. The photographer Jean Guichard just wanted to take pictures of the sea and took the helicopter. It was never meant to "rescue" the keeper. The guy who did the video is wrong.

My goodness....So powerful, and dangerous, and awe inspiring!!! I already have quite the fear of water, that I could not imagine being in any of these especially during a storm! Much respect to the sea though, for sure!

My parents had that same picture of man in lighthouse about 20 years ago. Still gives me chills looking at it!!

These lighthouses surviving these large waves 🌊 isn't impressive to me but the people that built it and survived these large waves that is very impressive

2:45 I wonder where you got your information from! That keeper was on shift and in an interview he said that he was not aware about the wave at first and on its way back inside. There was no rescue but shift change what got him off. One shift is 14 days.

Humans: "We'll build a tower out in the middle of the ocean. It'll be fine." Mother Nature: "Challenge accepted!" -- To be honest though, with regular maintenance these lighthouses do seem to stand up well to the sea year after year.

Waves that huge crashing with such sheer force on those little structures. How do they not just crumble and get swept away. Fascinating to see the punishment they can endure but also mind boggling
