Waking up WITHOUT pain after surgery?

Curiosity, outward focus, and gratitude are powerful emotions during the vulnerable surgery period. When patients fall asleep with less inward focused rumination they might wake up with less pain and reflexive suffering afterwards!

I recently had back surgery and don’t remember the first two days. The doctor nicked the spinal cord and fluid leaked so I had to lay flat for those first few days. What I do remember was the complete feeling of relief. Relief from the excruciating pain I had been in before the surgery for years. I am so thankful for my surgeon and anesthesiologist. ❤❤

I had the best heart and lung surgeon and the best anesthesiologist I had a middle lobe lobectomy on Friday when home on Sunday with no pain meds and let me tell you the main thing is put your hands in there's and everything will be okay I was not afraid I knew God was with me I knew these gentlemen were going to take care of me I'm also a nurse so I knew what I was looking at when they rolled me in their asked if I could go to work they said no but I wasn't afraid and that is what it's all about the trust you have in the people that you chose to do what they needed to do and they did it and I am just fine and I love those people that did what they needed to do God bless you and keep you forever and I would go back to the same people.

I did this with an open heart patient in her 80s. She did extremely well.❤

I think your videos helped me out when I had my recent surgeries.

Pain comes after 36 hours, not upon awakening. I suspect that this man has had no serious surgeries himself, or was not left alone for days, vomiting and with muscle spasms.

I had a cholecystectomy. I remember waking up feeling like I slept the best sleep I ever had, calmly and cleary aware of my situation and surroundings. I felt no pain. I often wonder if between extubation and the time I awoke if I had said or done anything. There was one nurse sitting by my bed, and no indication of anything funny or not so funny having happened, still I wonder.

I’ve had 8 knee surgeries including a knee replacement. I always go under anesthesia anxious. I broke my ankle last week and as I had never broken a bone I had no idea what to expect after. I went in to theatre having jokes with the nurses and Dr. I woke up so relaxed and felt at ease. Such a different experience. I’d waited 3 days and was in hospital from 2pm till 8pm before I went to surgery but every nurse could not be nicer to me which I think helped. I’m 5 days post op and no pain, very happy patient.

I like your videos and I also agree that it’s incredibly important to have a positive attitude but I’m not sure that’s a fair statement.

It tells people who do wake up from surgery in a lot of pain that they didn’t have the right attitude or preparedness going in, which may not necessarily be true.

I was super excited for one of my surgeries and the potential of getting better. I woke up in extreme pain. It had nothing to do with my mindset prior. It’s just the way it was.

Again, I like the concept you’re getting at but I think there’s maybe a better way of going about saying it.

I had to use a focus point to change my mindset when I woke from the horrific pain. I concentrated on the Lord and thought the nun was an angel all of the sudden I pushed my pain aside and got up after knee surgery and got in my wheelchair. Yes it your mind.

Maybe I wake up not in pain because I look forward to that fantastic sleep that only comes in second behind my childhood sleep in the country at my grandparents house! ❤️💯

Some surgeries are so damn painful even if it’s plastic surgery that you’re actually very excited to have. 😢

Last time I had surgery (long time ago when I was 8, 7 years ago) I was hysterical and crying and I stayed up all night scared and I was in such a bad mindset when I woke up I felt dead

I go home with no pain till the medications wear off. It's nice for the ride home, and I'm great full for that.

Weirdly I think being in a shit mindset and worried I was going to die made coping after surgery easier. I woke up, was pretty happy that I was still alive and that once a nurse confirmed that the surgery went well I was in a decent mood despite the pain.
