Voice Over is a Great Gig (if you have the right connections?!?!?!)

People can come up with all kinds of reasons why they (or others) can not be successful in voice over. I saw a post yesterday that voice over was a great gig "if you have the right connections".

Really? Is that the way VO works?

As a full time VO pro for the past 18 years and having coached hundreds of others, I have a thought or two on the topic.

This is so necessary to discuss, Bill. I have a lot of empathy and compassion for newbies. I've been at this several years now, but I knew no one and was starting pioneer style. I was new to social media as well. My first connections were my VO coaches. I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into training, learning, making mistakes, and getting to know myself as an artist. Still do. What works for me, works for me, but I had to learn what that looks like and stay open to pivot when necessary. Appreciate this huddle. 💯

Love your soapbox moments! I know exactly the people you are referring to and I agree, as they can be downright vulgar and hateful at times!
As far as your mystery subject, I immediately thought Mel Blanc, but after your hints, I don't think it was him!
PS: Chicken fried steak!!

I don't know what I don't know and what I need to know. I just don't understand how to get myself out there.
Do I just record my voice to an mp3 and throw it into the river of the internet and hope something bites? Do I have to doctor the recording? What about effects, do I do that myself?
I can't afford any training programs, and I have nowhere to ask these questions.
