The ground water pump does not need to be in water also, you can place it anywhere with power and it will pump water, or oil if its on oil land. You can also raise the ground water pump pretty high using "alt + (scroll wheel)' - Nice video, 👏

If you build a polluted water farm then you can use the more powerful stardust energy generators. They don't require any fuel and give you 35W of power as long as you're in a polluted area. You do need to get dirty water from a clean area but it's not that hard to take a trip to a lake and shove it into your car's trunk.

EDIT: Also, you can create a switch to turn off certain parts of your base manually. I do this for my defenses and production facilities. If I need my defenses then I switch the production off and defenses on and once the defenses are no longer needed I swap back.

Have you tried EL making with ice tea? Link up a few purifiers, wait to have enough pure water then build a dozen refrigerators and make ice. While waiting go to a lakeside and gather lotuses and other herbs. Group up everything, make ice tea and sell it 300 a piece.
