We also can't forget that mankind's activity = roughly 8, 000 kiluea-sized active volcanoes or so. Roughly. In this, we see a higher level of c-12, entirely consistent with burning of carbon sinks (stable chain-forming carbon - coal, wood, octane, etc), rather than from volcanic activity. That's on way how we infer it is manmade - the fingerprint of carbon isotope ratio. It's not just guesswork - there's no natural sink to account for the substantial ppm increase over the last 100+ years.

"The Gulf Stream Current has slowed by 30% since 1998."

That report is from 2005. In 2007 Nature article determined this to seasonal changes.

It's rather certain. The isotopic measurements of atmospheric carbon occur in the form of Carbon 12 - i.e. non-radioactive carbon isotopes consistent with the burning of carbon fuels. Natural, 'carbon cycle' levels show more variety in the types of carbon.

In order to refute the inferred conclusion of a manmade source (seeing as we do know roughly how much we put into the air), the release of a very large natural sink would have to be located to account for the rise during the last 100 years.

Yes, but volcanic sources display more radioactive isotopes. It's an identifying geological feature. We know full what to expect from volcanic activity - how much dissolves in the ocean, how much c-13, c-14 compared to c-12. It's a root of the whole science itself.

Let's not forget to ask this enlightened climate expert about the tons of ecological data as well- showing CO2 increases and isotopic readings corresponding to fuel combustion, as well as oceanic PH lowering, changes in seasonal melt patterns, in species' distribution / migration patterns in response to latitudinal climate averages - melting permafrost, extreme loss of polar ice volume, and on and on and on... and on...

this is why the internet is such a hoot

There is a freaking global warming, the question is if humans are contributing as much as scientists first believed, or if nature itself is doing this..

There's a difference between the anthropogenic global warming and the natural one..

all that says is that some places on earth are getting warmer while some are getting cooler.

I Think the whole galaxy is warming up. Earth, Venus, and Mars are all experiencing global warming awell. NASA should do a video on that!

I just finished watching a news video showing that it is snowing in central Texas.

NASA has been keeping satellite information from 1990, they can definitively say 2000-2009 was the so-called warmest decade.

Theres the issue. We are taking about Global Warming. Who changed the term to "Climate Change" and why was it necessary?

I am told that we need to cool the planet down and stop it from heating up? Im also told that warmer weather causes more precipitation, snow and colder weather. So if heating the planet up makes the weather cooler, why dont we just make it hotter ;)

If the entire planet becomes covered with snow, but on average the temperature is warmer.. its still bad climate change/global warming and we have to stop it?

What is the ideal temperature that we are shooting for on which part of the planet?

Cool! Can you suggest some reading on that topic? (technical reading is fine)

@Squagnut

It is nice to see someone checking for sources =)

@stegalXX, Sweden and other northern European counties will not get warmer but colder. See global warming will have different effects on different places. Sweden has through history got its sweet temperature because of the Gulf Stream. What happens with global warming is that the Gulf Stream gets redirected due to a handful of things. This leads to a _colder_ climate in the northern parts of Europe.

Maybe we should rename global warming to Global Climate Destruction so ppl don't get confused :)

hahah i agree with Squagnut, if man's contribution is only 0.02 percent then we wouldnt have global warming

The Radiative Forcing hypothesis that an increase in CO2 explains almost all of the .14 increase in temperature the past 15 years has been overstated. Remove this incorrect theory and the increase due to CO2 more like .02 degrees C.

Well said, puts them simple minded folk in their place.

@MsWanderer1: "The reality is that man's contribution is only 0.02 percent."

Can you give your source for that, please?

@KasparHauser4 Last I herd 60% of Texans believe that humans and dinosaurs lived together less then 10, 000 years ago...Lets just say nobody is surprised they are suing EPA over this..
