Tony, hands down you are the fairest, most honest, and most informative camera reviewer on the internet. I love that I can trust you to bring unbiased, not shilled, articulate and knowledgeable depth and breadth on the subjects you cover. Thank god for you. I Appreciate you and your work. You ARE the real deal.

Can I just say, I am so thankful that this information is out there even in 2020. Because I'm the type who is content to stay a generation behind to wait for things to come down in price and the advice and information you were providing 4 years ago is still extremely pertinent now. Especially with the 5DS R being discounted like $2400CDN these days... Thanks Tony!!

I do think that the dynamic range tests are getting ridiculous at this point. From review sites especially (cough DPreview).

I get that some people want to lift / "recover" some shadows sometimes in high contrast scenes. But 3+ stops?

Then you get these tests from DPReview that underexpose a picture with 5 stops and claim camera x is better than y because they could recover more in the picture. Who misses exposure by 5 stops?! Even cameras their exposure comp dial don't go to -5. So they use manual to completely underexpose a picture and they call this stuff "real-world test"". It's like throwing a smartphone from a 40 story building to check its durability. It's ridiculous.

I like the comparison of the D7200, but I would also like to see how it stacks up a to a newer body like the D500. The sensor is newer technology and the autofocusing system would make for an interesting comparison.

Love seeing the Canon AE-1, brings back some good memories. 1980 tail ships Boston, 12+ rolls mixed film, My one year old AE-1, less than 6 shots on 1st roll, battery dies. All I could do was watch the ships sail into Boston.

Tony is so chill about image quality. He knows that it's not about the size of the sensor; it's the motion in the ocean.

You seem to have a decent colection of vintage film cameras lying around. Have you considered making an episode shooting one of them for fun? I would love to hear you talk about using these old cameras.

The Canon will be my first full frame camera. I've been waiting for along time for this one. Pros for me: 30 mp, touch screen, higher iso, duel auto focus, WiFi. Cons for me: no Cfast card, SD 1. So for me the Pros win. Thanks for the fast review Tony & Chelsea.

This is a really good initial review of iq, something many of us wonder when a new camera comes out. So clear, succinct and suitably thorough. Thanks for posting it!

I would like to see a 4k video comparison between the Canon 5D Mark IV and the Sony a7rII please.

Looking at the raws on dpreview, I must disagree with some of your points.

Firstly, for overall IQ, the 5d4 will be the winner. The 5dsr just can't push raws around as well and noise reduction won't get enough of that back. The 5d4 also wins at high ISO but the difference is less and noise reduction may push the 5dsr forwards if it weren't for needing a higher shutter speed to make use of all of that resolution (if hand holding the camera). So, overall winner, 5d4. Unless you want more mega pixels of course.

Secondly the d810 does have better low ISO shadows, but the 5d4 fairly quickly overtakes it as the ISO increases. The difference isn't huge but it is noticeable.

Wow!! Good early review of the image quality of the new Canon 5D Mark IV. I loved (stretching the syllables sound) the bonus segment you through in there of the Nikon D7200 vs the Can Mark 5D III and against the Canon 5D Mark IV. That was really awesome! If you was to compare any APS-C camera body against that new full-frame Canon 5D Mark IV, it should have been the Nikon D7200 because of it's superb image quality and dynamic range. Wise choice and a lovely bonus to view. In all honesty, I love your review channel shows on the technical aspects of the digital cameras. Nothing against your wife, but you are very detailed and thorough in these particular shows and it is a delight to watch you go over the details. You are good Tony! Keep up the good work man.

Thanks Tony for an excellent snippet of the 5D Mark iv's relative performance.  Its obviously going to keep you busy over the next while!

Tony: Go to DPReview and use their comparison tool to look at ISO performance at 12, 800 and 25, 600 of the Canon 5d Mark IV, Nikon 810, and Sony AR7 II. The 5d Mark IV has noticeably less noise.
