IBM unveiled a breakthrough in semiconductor design and process with the development of the world's first chip announced with 2 nanometer (nm) nanosheet technology.

It is projected to achieve 45 percent higher performance, or 75 percent lower energy use, than today's most advanced 7 nm node chips.

Developed less than four years after IBM announced its milestone 5 nm design, this latest breakthrough will allow the 2 nm chip to fit up to 50 billion transistors on a chip the size of a fingernail.

Just fucking incredible, however bashing 7nm as already old is bullshit because it was yet introduced in 2018, before that 10nm or 14nm chips were very common, heck i remember the first ps3 using a 90nm process followed by a 45nm version in later models, the latest model ended up with a 35nm chip, wich was significant compared to the 90nm process as it solved that overheating problem from the first ps3 models.
Now up to the 1nm process chip.
