This game worked out very well with my 3rd-5th graders. I'm guessing it would also be a hit for middle school as well- and perhaps HS. Aiming is big in this game, along with speed. If the two people who are "it" cannot hit a target or run down a runner to tag them, the game can drag along. I jumped in and played once this was happening to speed up the game. Great cardio!!! The kids ALL loved the challenge

I teach 7th and 8th grade and they enjoyed. The first time I played it, I had the students sit down where they were tagged. I adjusted the rules the next time I played it. When a student is "hit or tagged" with the dodgeball, they now become taggers and must stand half-court and tag other students that are trying to cross and make it to the other side. The only caveat is, the taggers in the middle (half-court) can only pivot (and not move or chase) to tag the students who are running to the other side.

It's funny how coddled our kids have become. No dodgeball, no tag, no elimination games! C'mon. These games are fun for the vast majority of students. Don't penalize the majority because a few might not be as good at it as the rest. You're always going to have kids who aren't as physically gifted. It's like saying we shouldn't hold band tryouts anymore because it would alienate the crappy instrument players. Allow everyone in!

If you stress that any of these are GAMES and FOR FUN, no ones feelings should be getting hurt anyway. Getting out in dodgeball will not emotionally scar you for life.

What if they catch the ball ? Do they still sit or do they switch places ?

I like this game but I hate allowing kids to sit or even stand when out. Can anyone think of some alternatives? My high school kids get out on purpose just to sit with their friends.

Careful with the use of "we." Any game can be useful if done by the right kind of PE teacher. Games only become aggressive if your personality allows it.

I thought we had moved passed the days of dodge ball and elimination game....great presentation, but poor choice of games.
