The Athletic's David Ornstein revealed this week that Erik Ten Hag had agreed to join Manchester United, but why has the appointment taken them so long, and when is it likely to be officially announced? And after some big names came crashing out of the Champions League, is there any chance he might be on the radar for other clubs?

Ten Hag wouldn''t have come mid-season. He has always maintained he will respect Ajax

I mean even if united wanted poch or ten hag in november would the clubs really let go those managers mid season? Especially if they were doing well. Psg were as good as ajax respective to their leagues but they wouldn't have let go of poch half way through his first full season there. Makes sense that united waited for the summer to make sure their targets are available rather than just getting a permanent manager who they didn't really want.

I always thought the answer was straightforward. The board didn't expect Ole to screw up so spectacularly so suddenly, and with a new ceo and sporting director in place, then collectively decided the best thing to do is to map out a proper recruitment plan even if it means more short term pain. They got a perfect interim in Rangnick because of his extensive know-how in club building, and the role would enable him to see the problems on the ground before his moves into a consulting role. This summer will finally be an opportunity for the new ceo and sporting director to take further concrete steps to make improvements in the backroom with Rangnick's advice, while Ten Hag tries to resuscitate the first team. It will take time but I am sure things will get better in the next 2 seasons.

It was the right move from United, get Rangnick in to assess the issues. They have to get it right with the next manager and full backing Erik Ten Hag. It’s a perfect football decisions despite losing out on CL spots etc.

Ajax are one of a handful of clubs that United have a strong transfer dealing relationship with. Making an early move for Ten Hag would’ve not only been futile (Ten Hag was always going to stay till the end of the season), it would’ve made future player transfers more difficult and expensive.

No one will succeed at United until the whole club structure and atmosphere changes.

The club needed to transform things and lay the groundwork for long term success but mostly it was mid-season so obviously an interim made the most sense.

Ajax were not running away with the league in 2019/2020. AZ were on level points with Ajax after 25 matchdays. AZ had no big games against the big 3 left.

They knew it would be easier to get high quality manager closer to the summer .

Yo Amigo,

If United sticks with the 5 year plan it needs to build a strong team with an attacking football filosofie and sticks with the one plan, yes Ten Hag could build a strong united side with players that now how to play that kinda football, big names and just good names. If you put 11 biggest names in football in 1 team, there will be to much ego’s and they can win games but never win trophy’s year after year. Teams also need water carriers with fighting spirit. United needs a team that plays for the crowds in the stands. And if you play football like Ajax, Barca or City and things go well the crowd will love it, even if you loose sometimes.

But where I wanted to go with this is this:

If I was Ajax, and or United, yes Ten Hag goes to united. But I would also try to get Wayne Rooney to be boss of Ajax team. And let him get a taste of the real Ajax filosofie, let him develope himself in Amsterdam for couple years and then after a good periode of Ten Hag at United I know 100% that Rooney would be ready to take the seat after Ten Hag.

What do you say about that?

Ten Hag doesn' want an announcement before May 15

Simple answer is that he's not available until the end of this season, Ajax wouldn't release him so Utd haven't got any choice but to wait . Also his " appointment " has only been mentioned in the media so it's not absolutely certain that he's actually coming to Utd as the Club haven't said anything .

I wish Ten Hag all the best but almost 10 years in I don't think he can fix Man U on his own.

The transfer budget is too in my view ..you need buy Declan, Harry and Ben apart from offloading at least a dozen first-teamers. Around £350m is needed, and around £100m for refurbishing Carrington and the roof of Old Trafford. Lastly, £100m needs to go to your owners as dividends and another £120m or so for debt repayments.

MU need to identify the main issues with their squad first before any new manager is recruited. The board had to be very cautious if they are to return to their competitive winning ways again.

Ask your mates at the club who feed you info why they didn't appoint him sooner.

Because he's the manager of ajax... Don't be so arrogant to suggest he would have left ajax in limbo, I say this as a manc

I'm happy with Ten Hag and excited for the future with him.

But I dont know why Pochettino signed that contract extension with PSG. He was never going to stay there long. He knew jobs were opening sooner rather than later. And the releasal fee is in PSG's hands.

Because the director of football and "technical director" is John Murtough and Darren Fletcher. Man Utd HR at the board level is embarrassing
