@HazyJay The alternator will usually charge the battery at 13.5-14.8V, this is typically the safe charging range for a standard 12-volt car battery. Therefore, if your vehicle is running but you note a voltage of 12-12.6V, it's likely the alternator is not charging the battery, indicating a faulty alternator that needs replacing.

An easier way to tell if your alternator is bad in a range rover sport or LR3 is turning your radio up all the way while the car is on, if you see a "Low Power Mode" message on the head unit, the radio is telling you the voltages are reading as the car is actually off (12-12.6V) rather than on (13.5-14.8V).
