It’s not about the fear of physical violence, but the fear of letting your parents very disappointed. We should have the respect to our parents deep down in our hearts.

I feared God more than my parents. My parents were always away from home. I’m glad I knew who God was as a kid.

I was adopted at birth by 2 absolutely wonderful human beings. My parents were both Sunday school teachers to young adults and my Dad was a Deacon in pur Baptist church within walking distance of our home. I thank them with every prayer. Its so important to know the Lord, and im glad to have had their guidance. ❤

My mom and dad were the two most feared people in my life. They never beat me, they never said a bad word about me, but I was always terrified of letting them down, and that lead to me actively making good decisions over bad ones time and time again...

My father was a rough man but he used to tell me "there are far worse people than me out there im trying to prepare you for". When i got out into the real world i saw he was 100% right. 20 years after he passed im lucky he raised me to stand up for myself.

I never feared my mom. But noticed from a young age that my mom was raising 3 kids on her own. The pain and struggle my mom went through was enough for me to do right by her and listen. Fear was never in the equation responsibility was.

I was raised with values of empathy. You treat people right because that's how you want to be treated. I was never hit or physically abused. If you teach your children the right values, physical abuse is not needed, and I'm proud of who I am at 32 years old.

This is what makes it so hard for those abused by parents. My mother did a number on me- she gave me all the Catholic guilt but none of the love- It took a long time for me to feel Gods love. When I did accept Gods love my life changed. I love my father and I will never forget his face or his love. God loves you and you were made perfect.

There needs to be balance.

You can’t inspire fear and then be neglectful and expect healthy adults to spring forth by magic

Something interesting about the biblical context of the word "fear" is that when it is used the meaning of it is closer to the English word for respect then what we think of as fear.

Man, there’s so much truth in this statement, I just wish my situation were a little more normal. I’m Christian, but my parents are Muslim, and I’m almost sure they’ll disown me when I tell them I’ve converted. I’ve been praying and trying to formulate the right way and time to tell them, but I’m not sure how I’m supposed to go on with my life knowing I’m making life decisions that will upset my parents while still honoring them. I am NOT converting back, because I’ve seen how God has worked in my life and I have faith in Him, but I feel like I can’t be both God’s daughter and my parents’ daughter. Those two things feel like they’re in direct opposition to each other and it’s painful.

God knows what my Mom and Dad did. I'm sure he understands. I love God, and everything God done in my life.

I'm extremely blessed to belong to a church where the word of God is preached and to be able to learn about biblical discipline early on. I brought my son up by myself, and I applied I learned. It was difficult and painful but I did it by God's grace. My son is now a teen growing into a wonderful young man. Thanks be to God for the wisdom he gives to whoever seeks Him❤
