It is important that you work with people who treat you fairly and with respect, but building an ongoing relationship or a friendship with your client is not necessary, nor should it be your priority.

More important than a relationship is a client who will allow you to lead in the sale and allow you to lead in the engagement. Your client's willingness to let you lead is an indicator of how they perceive you and your expertise. It is also an indicator of their character and what they will be like to work with.

If an ongoing relationship or friendship develops with this client, think of it as a wonderful bonus borne from a successful business engagement.
