FT: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Ipswich Town

It was a bad day at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for Spurs as the Tractor boys won their first game of the Premier League (PL) season thanks to goals from Sammie Szmodics and Liam Delap got a much deserved win for Kieran McKenna's side.

But Ange Postecoglou was not happy with the performance of his Tottenham side and ahead of another international break their form is patchy.

Can Spurs and Ange solve their problems?

Tottenham Hotspur have not been quite as active in the transfer window this summer - only signing Archie Gray from Leeds United and Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC, Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth and Wilson Odobert from Burnley - but over the last few years under Ange Postecoglou Spurs have been building a top youth side.

With the help of Daniel Levy, Scott Munn, Johan Lange and Fabio Paratici Spurs have lowered the average age of the squad to 25.

The Premier League is heating up with Arsenal, Aston Villa, Brentford, Brighton and Hove Albion, Bournemouth, Burnley, Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Everton, Fulham, Liverpool, Luton Town, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Wolves aka Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ipswich Town, Southampton and Leicester City.

The former Celtic, Yokohama F. Marinos, Brisbane Roar and Melbourne Victory coach Ange Postecoglou and his Tottenham squad include Guglielmo Vicario, Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Destiny Udogie, Emerson Royal, Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojberg, Dejan Kulusevski, Bryan Gil, Brennan Johnson, Son Heung-Min (손흥민) Richarlison, Pape Matar Sarr, Jamie Donley, Alfie Dorrington, Ashley Phillips, Oliver Skipp, Rodrigo Bentancur, Sergio Reguilon, Djed Spence, Ryan Sessegnon, Micky van de Ven, Timo Werner, Radu Dragusin, James Maddison and Dane Scarlett, Manor Solomon, Alejo Veliz, Giovani Lo Celso, Ben Davies, Fraser Forster, Brandon Austin, Alfie Whiteman, Ivan Perisic, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga, Tanguy Ndombele, Joe Rodon, Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, Archie Gray, Yang Min-hyuk, Wilson Odobert, Dominic Solanke and Luka Vuskovic.

Players are more concerned with playing well for their country and dont want to risk themselves for the club. Wait till you see Romero on international duty, best defender in the world.

The fans always calling for the knee-jerk immediate manager sacking is the issue ... give the man time, the club is improving and he doesn't even have the squad he wants yet!

Johnson cowering in defence for the first goal unforgivable

he is the right manager for spurs. we are no where near the squad he wants. look at the summer signings. ange got 1 player he wanted and it took levy ages to get it done! levy could have signed him early in the window since solanke didnt participate in the euros.. the other 2 levy didnt want to spent the wages on to get (neto and ghallager) instead he got 3 teenagers for the future and not for now. maddision is not an ange signing i dont care what anyone says, ange was given an option out of a possible few and he had to choose one of them exact same with dragusin. they both do not fit his system at all and the manager gets the blame for the club forcing these signings on the manager. i dont see how any spurs fan can see the squad he basically inherited and say we are challengers. we are not even close to challengers of anything. we need serious clear outs and a lot more additions to this squad. rebuilds take time its ridiculous that we have to constantly remind everyone of that.

It wasn’t a surprise. It’s happened for years. The players too often don’t try against the weaker teams, especially before the international break. They are already on the plane. Ange’s inflexibility is also costing us. However, a new manager will only help so much. It all filters from the top down, winning things just isn’t what this club is about.

We need to recruit winners, some players who are already proven winners

If the fans want Ange out it's easy to do, just chant "Levy Out" at the games and he will sacrifice the manager quick sharpe.

Problem is football fans are very thickell myself included . Everybody wants the manager out when we lose a few games . But if we win the next two games he will be great again ! But I do agree it’s too inconsistent.

It starts with the fan base we need to stop criticising Ange, he is not a clueless person he has a huge job ahead of him and need's to add more to the squad so he can hull off players that aren't doing their job

Ange just contridicated himself when he said he is to blame. When the interviewee said does it upset your when teams stop and start. Part of his response was coaches then give instructions to their players.
What is Ange role should he not have done the same. Than he stands like a Pall Bearer and say nothing to his players.
Secondly when asked our players was not closing their opposition down quick. His response his it is up to him to fix the problem.
If you recall he took away the physical side of some of our players. When he said that if we want to watch physical side we should watch WWE
For 18vl months he as not fixed our Set pieces nor did he fix our throw in.
There is enough reason for Ange to be sacked.

Very very frustrating. But I'm at the stage of my life now where I no longer let it get me down. It's been hard to get there but I've managed it. COYS

Ange is the right man. He will get there. We've seen how good we are when it works.

First time viewer and really enjoyed this breakdown, keep it up!

Let’s try to understand every loss before an international break. This has become a pattern and it can’t be coincidental. Ange needs to address this.

insane high line with the inverted FB leaving acres of space in behind and the CB on an island what could go wrong :(

Ange needs more squad depth, although Archie and spence are good fullback back ups, and we got a good back up for attack
We need more back up defenders and more midfielders in my opinion, also he needs to work on Ariel and set piece improvement
I’m saying this cause Dragusin was terrible on that game, what a slump goal he gave, also the over head kick was barely marked and we can’t control the game in a physical aspect.

Been following you since you started this channel Sonny. Today, I’m just heart broken. This defeat reminded me of Conte. He was difficult to get behind but boy was he right about something wrong within the club. And we all know what that is, Daniel Levy. It’s clear as a day now. We need players of the highest calibre in each position. Alone Son, VDV, Romero, Kulu, Lolo won’t cut it. We need leaders in every position. We have amazing stats backing us but the players let us down every damn time any team dares to step up to the challenge. I’m really really heart broken. Ange HAS done all he could, but on the field it’s up to the players.

Love your jersey mate! Love it! Probably ma favorite one of all. Still have one! (and it was my first!). Saw Ginola in Gothenburg while I was wearing one 😉👍

Romero and Porro have been underperforming for a long time yet have no competition for their places. Solanke reminds me of Viduka - draws defenders, creates spaces. Good buy

It comes to the point where i am just fed up because I see the same pattern with other tmanagers we have had. They try and protect the players then the managers end up getting frustrated and kick out at the board when they know they no time is up for them.
