We have grown some very nice slicing onions this year. We harvested a few after a storm broke some off. They are as big as a cup. We will be using this EASY way to grow onions again. The ground cover worked great.

We use self-rising cornmeal for our fire ants, works great. They eat it and kaboom, they are finished! Hope that will help because you have helped me so much. Thank you for all you do. 💕

Great looking onions Danny! We did some trials this year with onions we grew from seeds and plants we bought. And like you, the ones grown from seed just seem to do better. The Texas Legend always does well for us over in here in GA, and we like it because it stores a little longer than some of the flatter, granex onions. However, the Sweet Harvest variety did produce the largest onions from any of the varieties we planted.

MY grandmother would cut the bottom off where the roots are and let it dry just a little and then planted that.  It grew into a decent size onion.  That's how she kept a crop growing.

Danny those onions can you let a couple of onions go to seed to save the seeds for next year. With the crazy times we're heading into. I'm looking into saving seeds and not relying on the feed store.??

Have you tried DE and or Boric acid. I’ve seen a number of borax based ant bait videos as well. The best control of ants I’ve had was mixing boric acid and cornmeal. The ants take it back to the nest and it kills the queen.

If those are the best you can do in the deep south, that's nice. Up here in the deep cold of MN my onions are like soft the small ones.

We haven't had any luck with the Texas Legend either--for 2 years. Going to try the ones y'all grew from Hoss tools.

Diatomaceous Earth - food grade DE - is supposed to be very uncomfortable for ants and can be put right on the soil under the cloth. It is a fossilized algae and the microscopic shards get all into the insects' hard bodies and cause them problems, but people eat DE as a dewormer, for the same reason. The food grade is food safe.
