Russian Salad | Olivier Salad Recipe | Салат Оливье

Olivier salad is the most traditional Russian and Eastern European dish. It used to be made for holidays, parties and other special occasions. New Year’s Eve is the biggest holiday of all, and “Olivie” would be on almost all the tables as the clock would strike midnight. The ingredients are quite common and are pantry staples for most. It resembles a potato salad, of sorts, with the addition of other cooked vegetables and meat. In this recipe I did not use meat, so its a vegetarian Olivie. All the components of the salad mingle and meld to create a hearty, comforting salad.

Very nicely done! We have a similar salad in Persia but we add cooked, diced chicken breast and lemon juice. This salad came to Persia originally from Russia.

Alla, were you ever in the US Army? The speed with which you peeled the potato has me thinking you've done it a million times before this. :-) Your mayonnaise-y salad pinned the gorgeous meter at 100%! I can imagine it tastes as divine as it looks! Great job my friend!

We make this same salad in Romania and we call it "Salata de boff" that we mix with cooked and diced pork meat. I usually make this salad after Thanksgiving because we have all turkey breasts as left over and it makes a perfect addition in the salad. I also make homemade dressing with 2 egg yolks + 3-4 tbsp. yellow mustard and about 1 1/2 cups of vegetable oil that i gradually add and mix with the egg/mustard. When done just add in the veggies/meat mixture and mix well. It's really good!

love this salad I make so much when I make it enough to fill the biggest pickle jar and it keeps well in the fridge for a few days in the glass jar. I also add onion and I chop everything fine so you get all the ingredients in one bite and I use turkey hot dogs alittle twist that sounds wierd but my friends mom added a chopped granny smith apple and it was so good
