OMG the "contouring" with the eyeshadow of the arch is the most shocking one for me!!! 😂🤯 I have never seen or heard this before, but yeah, if people do it to define abs, why not try to get a better line! haha

I love Mikayla sacrificing a pair of point shoes to show people what happens if you dye them that way. I wonder if people have tried to pancake point shoes with sunset makeup's colorful foundation yet, cause that seems like it would get a better color payout than sharpies

As a ballerina and a violinist, the rosin conversations are always interesting.

I'm glad some other dancers from the 70's era commented about what we did to the tips of pointe shoes. I thought I was remembering wrong! You know those little crocheted bun covers? Well that but smaller was what we put on the tips. They only took a few minutes to crochet, then you just sew them on. I think it was mainly for anti-slip, but probably extended the life of the shoe too. 😊

I was at ballet school in the 70s and we were taught to darn the whole tip of the shoe. It took ages but we were told it would make the shoe last longer

I am a dancer trained in the 70's. Returning to dance in the last year was a WHOLE new thing...so many new innovations, most of which I find useless. Jet glue or super glue is the most toxic and rough uncomfortable thing to have in your shoe and near to your skin! I have always preferred natural shellack and actually did three pairs of shoes with it today before seeing this post. It's so much smoother than jet glue and cheaper! Love the videos and you too Josephine!

I love Lori❤❤ It is so funny that she still gets people asking about how she goes to the bathroom after sewing her tights on to her shoes😂

I used to darn mine like that too. Stopped slipping on the floors back in the day before Tarkett. Also, the darn absorbed rosin and helped as well.

When I was in the Queensland Ballet (more than a few years ago) we had a quick change in the ballet Pappion which included changing pointe shoes from pink to silver to matched the unitards, this all had to be achieved in 16 bars of music which included getting onstage into a long diagnoal line and positioning ourselves down on the floor on our special marks with our huge primitave pleated silk butterfly wings covering our bodies so that each one of us would be in a spotlight when the lights came up. We only just got our pointe shoe ribbons done up and tucked in in time, so no way could we have sewed our shoes onto our heels!

RE the "how many threads does she have in there?!": with the caveat that I haven't taken ballet in 30 years and I am a leatherworker, not a shoemaker (well, I've made shoes, but def not point shoes), sailmaker's needles are great for stuff like that. They have a triangular sharpened tip, so they'll go through extremely tough materials without ripping or distorting, and a long, large eye, so it can hold heavy/multiple threads (like the heavy waxed/braided cord used in leatherwork) without having a big wad of them at the eye that you need to drag through. And there are models that have a little bend at the end that helps with going across a right angle. Glover's needles are a finer/smaller version, but I don't know that they'd survive getting drilled through all that hard glue.

I think the dancer who dyed her shoes was doing it to prove that you shouldn’t do that. She was talking to the people in her comments who suggested it was a good idea.

Any time I see your name or face in a video, it's mandatory for me to stop what I'm doing and watch. I LOVE your facials, and you are giving us information behind it as well.

The stitch on that one shoe is a stem stitch from embroidery. Given the splitting of each stitch, it might make it less slippery on some surfaces? Love your vids, as always.

I'm going back nearly 50 years, but I remember some of the girls at ballet school using bought crochet covers for their pointe shoes. They were garishly bright pink and looked hideous. Decency forbids me to say what they reminded me of....
