The most surprising thing I learned was everyone sits for fireworks. That is so cool. No one blocks your views.

The thing that surprised me most when I visited Tokyo Disney was how there were so few kids- most of the people in the park were teens/adults! Also for the few kids there were, nobody used strollers!

fun fact! those keychain bags are called ita-bags, people in japan and more recently america use it as a way to express their love for a certain character/show/etc.

A tip i would add is, because most of the rides with big back stories like TOT are all in Japanese, they do have pamphlets with the english explanation if you ask for them!! That way you can know what's going on!

“Osoroi” means matching, “Futago” means twin, and “code” is actually pronounced ko-dé and is just a shortened version of coordinate which in japan, we use to mean outfit (since you coordinate an outfit).

The bags are based off of ita bags which roughly translates to painful bags. It’s from otaku culture where people will collect their favorite character.

The mickey soap dispensers were really cool! I wish they would add that in Disney World

Having worked at TDL I can attest to the fact that some visitors do have favorite characters that they look for... it's like an obsession but not in the creepy crazy sense (in my experience). Also, I love that you could claim your spot for a parade or show, get up to get a snack, and no one moved your stuff or took your seat. Plus the snacks and treats and collectibles were the best!! I miss working there.

I think it's funny that you commented on people all matching at Disney in Tokyo, when one of the things I noticed about Disneyworld was all the families wearing matching themed tshirts. Also the spot for taking photos of your bears is such a cute idea.

Roasty Toasty is the best name I've heard since walkie talkie.

I love Duffy! I am sad that he is disappearing from the American parks. Now they are no longer using him at the EPCOT Kidstops. I would love to go to Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea. Tokyo DisneySea looks amazing.

Been there last June. This place left me obsessed about absolutely everything. Going again next month.

Other surprising things about TDR:
1. Obsession with Chinese bao buns with various shapes
2. Obsession with Mickey shaped foods
3. Seasonal food comes with souvenir plates and cups which are kept clean with disposable paper or plastic cups respectively
4. 3D displays and photo ops for seasonal events
5. Huge selection of merch including home goods

There's this really cool snack only available at the Tokyo parks called sea salt ice cream. It's the same treat from the Kingdom Hearts series of video games. You get a chance to snack on it?

Tokyo Disneyland is an absolute pleasure to visit. Everyone is so well behaved and respectful. Even with lots of school groups there was no trouble. Couples wearing matching outfits is popular is Korea and Japan outside Disney too but Disney seems like the place where everyone does it.

Lived in Tokyo for 5 years. Absolutely love both parks. Great attention to detail and theming.

TDL is actually going to be adding a popcorn only store soon, where you can buy the different popcorn buckets and flavors in one location. THAT'S how crazy they are for popcorn in Tokyo.

Duffy is really disappearing from the US parks again? :/ That's a shame, though, I'm not entirely surprised. Duffy essentially came back over from Japan in the first place (which he became his own character based off the original Disney Bear). I always hoped it would do better, but I think part of the issue was just... the lower quality of it all? Between not even having all the characters available everywhere (I know Shellie May was exclusive to Aulani for a while) or importing some of the various Duffy stuff... Plus even the photo spots not really being highlighted.

The whole idea behind Duffy was a travel companion who you can dress-up and take with you, but in the US parks they often sold smaller versions already dressed and even undermined the story a bit. I really wanted Duffy to do well, but they didn't put all the effort the Japan parks did and most of the outfits are lower quality in comparison as well.

I adored Duffy when I saw it in Tokyo Disney when I first went back in the late 2000's (Either 8 or 9, if I recall correctly) and was so happy to pick one up, but even the fabric quality between my Duffy from Tokyo Disney and the one from the Disney parks here varies.

Anyway, I love Tokyo Disney and Tokyo Disney Sea has been one of my favorites of all the Disney Parks I've been to (I just... need to go to the ones in China already). I keep hoping to go back at some point. As for the popcorn, my favorite thing to do is get both the Honey and Milk Chocolate Popcorns and mix them together.

My biggest surprise was that the roz in the monsters inc ride has a real time voice actor. She once directly addressed me and told me to put my torch back in.
