Thanks! I was going down a rabbit hole on the microsoft help pages. The help from microsoft talked about MISSING references but did not clearly tell me where to find them in the "Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications" (the IDE window) and the \Tools\References menu.

this happens sometimes in my files that are in Dropbox. On opening the error comes. But there is nothing I can do... So after trial and error, only this worked: I just copy the file to a memory disk and open it once in another computer - maybe change something whatever, like Bold somewhere etc - and Save. And take this file back to your computer - and it is good to go again!
Might this have something to do with it being in the Dropbox? Also what helps - because Dropbox is synced - I can just open it in the other computer from dropbox and do the same thing - save it and open it in computer one - it should work again.

Hi nice tip..thanks for that. Currently i am facing a same kind of issue. I have code in excel 365 but when i opened it shows this error cant find project or library i tried your idea but when i clicked on reference it did nothing no dialogue box pop up. I tried on new work book but there is no missing library. Can you help me out with this. Thanks in advance.

WI am getting the same error, but when I try to open VBA, my excel application quits. Same thing when I try to copy anything or save the document. Am I missing something?

Hey thankx a lot bro. That was helpful. I have one question though. I've developed an addin, in Excel 2016. When my client tries to run the addin in his machine having excel 2007, it shows can't find project or library. When I checked, there were some missing references. After unchecking them, the addin worked fine. Is it possible to downgrade my excel 2016 references for the 2007 version.
