Since the recent popularity of hybrid, vehicles and models in the Toyota lineup, I have been asked the question many times over and over again.

Is it normal that my Toyota hybrid vehicle gets better fuel economy in the summer and warmer months when compared to the winter?

In this video, I let you know what’s going and why this may happen to you.

Thanks for watching!

I bought a ford escape hybrid and since it started to get cold I was curious why my mileage was dropping. Thanks for the explanation

Yup, can confirm also with living somewhere in the US where it's pretty cold most of the year (Minnesota) that during the winter months the fuel economy with my RAV4 hybrid does drop a good bit because of those colder temps. That being said though, on not as cold winter days, I'm still averaging around mid to high 30s for MPG which is still very good all things considered, whereas I would be getting well below that in the winter with my non-hybrid Camry I had before. If utilizing either factory or aftermarket remote start as well, that can also be a factor; though I can say wholeheartedly that it really does come in handy the few times I do make use of it on mainly single digit or subzero days we get!

They even spend more fuel when it's hot like down here in Florida in the summer months my RAV4 hybrid spends a little bit more gas cuz it's just too hot outside

Just bought a new 2024 Toyota Rav 4 hybrid. It said I had 500 miles to go before needing to fill. I will be lucky to get 400 because of winter here in New York.

I live in Australia, our hybrid Rav4 is garaged and protected from extreme cold, heat is harder to avoid but we always try to park in shaded areas

Man, don't know if it is a chemical reaction or not but drove a 2010 Prius IV for 12 years and noticed a bit of a flux in the hottest and coldest months. I attributed the drop in the winter to the cabin heater not starting to blow until the engine reached a certain temp. The engine warmed faster with the internal combustion running . In the summer I attributed the drop to the air controller figuring the system had to pull more power to cool the interior thus pulling down the battery and requiring more recharging. Never saw more than a mile or two per gallon fluctuation. Going into the first winter with my new RAV4 so will see what if any drop. (live in the DFW area/Texas) In town driving / averaging 44-45 mpg. With some hwy driving average drops down into the 43s.

I heard toyota hybrid has corrosion issues. Some people bad to spend nearly 6k to get corroded wire replaced and their cars won't start or hybrid system won't work. Is it true ?

Yes, especially lithium ion. Nickle does much better in the real cold.

I don't have garage, is it normal for hybrid rav 4 to park outside with -40C sometimes in winter?

Is it the same for hot summer? I noticed the fuel consumption increased significantly since June /camry 2023. Here in the middle east temp. Reaches 35 c

Regular vehicles burn more fuel in winter as well.
