I had to look up what a “Rubenesque” figure was (voluptuous, rounded belly, big breasts based off of painter Peter Paul Rubens artwork), and I have to say…those painted ladies look like they wouldn’t even be acceptable for FA today. They’d get shamed for being too thin for FA, which I think is comical.

"The wife suffers as much as the cheater, " if this was in the 1970's, then it's very probable the wife had it way worse and was forced to stay with her cheater and look the other way if they had children. I read that women back in the 1960's and 1970's weren't hired to work if they were single moms, and in some places women weren't even allowed to open their own bank accounts without their husband's signature.

These women who are oh so happy that a man is cheating on them give me major pickme vibes. It's a huge ego boost to them that a man is choosing them as fat women over his "inferior" thin wife. He isn't. He isn't married to you, hes married to her. He only sees you as a sex object and it's really sad that these women think it's a good thing.

Big or small everyone deserves respect and love. These men are giving neither to both and are worth nothing.

Ladies and gents and everyone in between, don't settle for a cheater and know your worth.

Edit: want to say I meant big or small not thin or small, was very tired and corrected my mistake but hopefully my point came across. Didn't want anyone to think I was saying thin woman are morally deserving more than anyone else

The word rubenesque has always been hilarious to me, but the existence of the word in reference to one artist's preferred body type should have been instructive to this author.

Would Degas, Picasso, van Gogh, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Velásquez, or anyone else have given Tess Holliday a _first_ look?

I am in my 70’s and was a young adult in the 1970’s. I graduated from college in the early 70’s. In the 1970’s, this article (and the tryst solicitations included) would have been seen as SO outside the norm to almost everyone. This was a world where extremely fat people were extremely rare….a world without the internet where most people were completely unfamiliar with fetishes…these things were off the radar. I grew up in a liberal home and didn’t know what homosexuals were until my mid-20’s. Fetishes? I was in my 50’s, married with grown children, when I learned about them from the internet. Nowadays kids are learning about this stuff.
That article isn’t really about cheating…it’s about fat fetishists…actually for fat fetishists who, back in the 70’s, would have been deep in the closet because most people didn’t know about it and would have been totally dismayed by it. You rarely saw an extremely fat person in public…they were truly rare. And before the internet most people would have been perplexed by the article and wouldn’t have been able to relate to it at all.
It is very difficult to explain and describe what life was like before the internet. What it was like to have spent most of your life without the internet…and also, in this case, without the obesity epidemic. All I can tell you is that most people back in the 70’s would not have perceived this article the same way it’s being perceived now.

My husband has always been chubby (6'1", 240-265) for our 43 year marriage. I prefer lean for looking at but the sneaky jerk has the best personality, good in bed, and i just love him. I never used his weight as an excuse to cheat.

Due to knee reasons he finally cares about his weight and has started counting calories and lifting. I am so tickled he is turning into a 64 year old hottie.
