Install ikea lack shelf

Install Ikea lack shelf without a hassle and in no time at all! You will use the walls in your home efficiently as the shelf holds a lot of things without taking up much room. It is shallow so could occupy both awkward corners and tight space, which is very important if you need extra storage. Thanks to its sleek design, Lack shelf looks good in every room. It's great to display dinnerware or drink-ware in the kitchen, ornaments or photos in the living room or some cute toys in the nursery. It can also hold make-up in the bathroom or serve as a bookshelf and a nightstand in your bedroom.

You can either mount the shelf unit horizontally or vertically on the wall but remember about the total load. Ikea's recommendations are: total max. load 25 kg for a horizontal position and the max. load 3 kg per shelf for a vertical one.

I have fixed the shelf to the plasterboard but different wall material requires different types of fixing devices so double check what is suitable for the walls in your home.

Thank you!! My Dad normally does this stuff for me, and he passed last year. My shelf has been on the floor but has tipped over twice from the amount of stuff I have had on it, even with the Velcro picture hangers. My only question is what are the things called you put in the wall to anchor it? It didn’t come with my set and I will need to run to HomeDepot.

Finally, someone mounts the unit on the wall! Every other video, people leave it sitting on the floor :-| What size drill bit, drywall anchor, and screws did you use for the plate to mount it to the wall? And should I install a plate on the top and bottom? I know it comes with three, but not sure if it would help distribute the weight or not. Thanks!

The option #1, while very well installed, seems still to not be enough support for such a big piece, especially when you put items on it. I’d be afraid of that totally falling down!

For mounting vertically there is only one mounting plate at the top with 2 holes for anchors? Does the bottom of the unit not need to be constrained to prevent rotation?
