Thank you for actually giving real suggestions to determining the problem! My washer company site only had dumb suggestions like, ‘is the door closed?’ ‘Is the setting on low or delicate?’ Useless! But your info is so helpful. Thanks again!

Switch broke years ago. Twisted the wires together and bypassed the switch. Clutch got weak so put an extra washer by the spring and cleaned the oil leaking from the transmission out of the clutch drum with brake cleaner. Had a spring break that helps stabilize the tub on the spin cycle. Twisted a new hook on the end and reattach it with a short loop of coat hanger wire.

Lots of stuff has broken on our old Roper washing machine but haven't had to buy a part yet. Lol

Had to buy a new drum belt for the matching Roper drier and the control dial has been shot for years. Just hit the start button and it still works like it has since new. Takes forever to dry a full load of laundry. Heating element glows and the ducts are clean. Believe it had poor air flow from the get go.

Glad there are plenty of do it yourself videos to help me keep these low quality Ropers going. Miss my old bare bones basic GE washer and dryer.

Oh.
And the adjetator likes to occasionally eat clothes. Down at the bottom of it are four fins with a small gap over the base plate that catches clothes and has ripped more that a couple fairly new shirts.

4. Damaged stator/rotor

My first washer and dryer (and refrigerator, upright freezer, and chest freezer) all lasted "forever", call it twenty years or more. I still have that first washer and dryer out in the shop, doing yeoman service as sturdy metal-topped tables with storage room inside, and a two good electric motors and pumps should I ever want to DIY something with them. The wife just wanted something new, with modern features. Fine with me; we certainly got our money's worth out of the old set. I think for the washer it cost about two-fifty a month, and a little less for the dryer. Small change, anyway. The new one we bought back then just died after a piddling five and a half years - cost about ten bucks a month. Still cheap, but not as cheap as the good old daze. I guess the manufacturers realized they could not stay in business building the type of quality products that would last for twenty years or more.

My Maytag washer with a stator type of motor had a little water at the bottom of it. Realized it was the bearing, problem it is you can't just replace the bearing it requires the whole tub and bearing assembly. But it was actually easier to replace than I thought. Used to have another type with the coupling, you can tell when it's the coupling if there's little bits and pieces of plastic down below and it's also pretty obvious when you lift a washer up you can actually see the coupling with the prongs broken off.

My top load whirlpool 20 year old washer doesn't seem to extract as much water as it used to. I replaced the motor to tranny coupling which was partly broken and measured the spin RPM at ~550 rpm.
The clutch seems ok, not too worn - anything else?

My washing machine won't spin and/or start cycle. I can hear/see the shift actuator move back and forth and then the motor tries to spin and gets like maybe 1/4 turn and stops. It will do this a few times and then just stop. Do you have any idea?

I have a GE, my agitator does not spin but the bottom portion does as it’s 2 parts. Agitator is loose but unlike other videos where they take out the fabric softener cup and the plastic to get to the nut. I cannot get the plastic off as the ridges are worn down and almost impossible to get off. I’m pretty sure the agitator is just loose but I have no idea how to tighten it

On an LG top load washing machine, is the washplate supposed to move independently of the outer washtub, or is that an indication that the splines on the washplate are stripped ? Thanks for the videos.

My whirlpool washer needs a push start by hand to start spinning. What could be the problem?

my washer is a kenmore Elite 110.27032600 that just stopped spinning, of course it is mid cycle. It is making a humming noise that stops and starts, but no spin. the tub freely moves in both directions by hand. how do I tell if the stator is what actually went bad or if it might be the position sensor or bearing? I don't want to order a lot of parts i don't need.

How do you get into diagnostic mode? I remember you have to hold several buttons at the same time. These shity washers wont last more than 3 years. The luckily I have a spare washer on standby that's 20 years old. However I still want to get this fixed

So basically I should just buy a new washer.
